Cheers KE. Not the best bunch but a couple of decent players in the pack.
It's not about results, it's about nurturing players to make them into successful first team players in the future.
As you know, the success rate is low so if a couple of them makes it into a first team regular then it will all be worth it!!

Any idea how they've gone on this morning? Heard they were playing Huddersfield at home at 11am.

Pennock is a level headed guy. He has hands on experience with the first team, reserves and youth team. He knows what the score is.
If Nathaniel Wedderburn and Jimmy Phillips (for example) go on to both play 20 games for the first team in the next two years then he will have had success.
Having said that, of course the boys would love to win every week but the better crop of players get that chance by turning out for the reserve team

Yeah KE, I will be at the reserves. Will be interesting to see if Pennock puts a couple of more established players in bearing in mind it is the Vale.
Are you making the trip?

Jimmy Phillips scored 1st via a wicked deflection then won a penalty that was scored by the returning Marc Grocott. Anybody know how we did Saturday away at Barnsley.

Cheers for that info Buxton - that is a rather impressive turnaround. As a matter of interest what happened to the U16 results when they lost their best players?

I dont think they have played because they usually play simultaneously but they havent been playing whilst these have been played and most of these games have been rearranged ones and played midweek mornings/afternoons so the new U16's, who are going to be 14 and 15, I would imagine are at school or wherever Stoke have them(if at all they have a say)

Which of the U-16s have caught the eye?
Further down the age scale, meanwhile, Stoke have recently offered a two-year apprenticeship to under-16 products Daniel Stockhall, Rodney MacDonald, Matthew Cohen and Warwick Alexander.
"Danny is a very tenacious midfielder," says Pennock, "who works very hard for himself and the team. We'd be very pleased to have him on board.
"Rodney is a left-back-cum-centre-half. I've converted him inside because I think he can be a centre-half in the long run. He's good in the air, got a decent left peg and reads the game well. His brother is a pro at Manchester City and hopefully he can carry on in the same vein as him.
"Matthew is another centre-half. He's quick, good in the air and like the rest, he's honest and always wanting to learn to improve his game.
"Finally, Warwick is a big, strong centre-forward I like the look of. We brought him on for the under-18s at Manchester United last weekend and he was unlucky not to score late on when he hit the post."
Stoke have already offered two-year apprenticeship terms to fellow under-16's Tom Urwin, Louis Moult, Adam Vickers and Ryan Connor.

Alexander and M<oult really seem to have a good partnership going and understand each other. Vickers has done well when up front aswell. Thats the main difference now, this years side had no decent strikers so the ball just came straight back so I'd say Alexander and Moult have had the biggest impact. I havent heard of Stockhall but if hes the CM who played with Wedderburn today then he looks very good and McDonald looks a cultured defender in the Rio mould but also willing to chuck himself in front of a shot
