Looks like he's been brought in as makeshift central midfielder alongside Bradley. Will be interesting to see how he does in the role, given that a lot of us would like to see Stoke try him there.

MOTM performance so far. And just played a stunning ball to Altidore for the second goal.

(correction - second goal was Johnson. But pass certainly from Geoff...)

Cameron and shea need extended trials imo... Hopefully Hughes agrees.

They should play all their games in Seattle. Like their footy up there

Finished 2-0. GREAT game from Cameron (hope Hughes catches some of that on video and considers playing him center mid). And despite the crappy field, Seattle is a superb venue. That hand clap thing in the second half was chiling.
(Admittedly, Panama are hardly world beaters, but you can only deal with what they put in front of you...)

Shock horror. He's played in central midfield and has a stormer. Who'd have thunk it?

Pretty well all the US websites thought he had a great game last night. Here is just one link but there are 7 or 8 which are just as positive. LinkBit of a mystery why TP so rarely played him in centre midfield having bought him for that position. I understood him being put at right back when we were trying to find one who worked but, once Shotton started to look as though he might belong there, TP was reluctant to allow Cameron to have a run out in place of Whelan. Possibly TP was more concerned with giving Cameron a rest after his 12 month season - or possibly he simply forgot that I bought Cameron to play in midfield?

Sounds like an encouraging performance from Cameron, I think central midfield is definitely his best position. I was particularly impressed with him when we played at the Emirates last season, he played almost as a second striker behind Crouch in a very attacking midfield role and he picked out some great passes as well as helping to break play up. If anyone was wondering why Maurice Edu wasn't involved last night it's because he was having surgery, not sure what for though.

Just watched it in a bar in Vegas, Cameron had a cracking game, the opposition were bloody awful but you can only play against what's in front of you. Also altodore looked a threat and took the goal well

"Compared to his performance at right back against Belgium, Cameron looked a completely different player"
Who'd have thought? Natutal position, good performance.
Maybe applies to Adam too.

Cameron played well in midfield. I wouldn't complain if we signed Altidore. The guy is a tank and has improved loads since his time at Hull.

I really don't rate the bloke at all, but I'd have him in midfield before Whitehead.

I was always under the impression that we bought Cameron as central defensive cover and for his utility qualities.

yes he had a decent game but it was against panama ... better teams would not give you that time on the ball and have such a shocking defensive positional sense

I was always under the impression that we bought Cameron as central defensive cover and for his utility qualities. Before we signed him, Mike, the American websites were full of comment that we planned to play him in midfield. And when he arrived, Kemp commented that he could do well in midfield or at right back. His first game for us was in centre midfield but because of injuries he got switched to the wing and then full back where he stayed for most of the season until he was rested for much of the last month or so - not surprising as he had been playing for 12 months by that point. I'd have expected him to have featured more in midfield once Wilson came back from his injury as, by that time, Shotton had showed that right back was his best position. Hopefully, Hughes will see the video of last night's game and will be open minded as to his best position.

"angry clogger who plays at full-back and kicks talented Premier League wingers" Wow, I guess he gets to see a lot more of him in his armchair than I do at the Brit. I've never seen him kick anyone or show any anger.

I've never seen him kick anyone or show any anger. Yes, that is one of the more bizarre blogs I have seen about a Stoke player. Even the Stokies who don't rate him don't accuse him of being a clogger or someone who causes damage to wingers. One of his strengths always seems to be his ability to win the ball in 50/50 situations without even touching the opponent. Still, it is an American blog and they have only been playing the game for about a hundred years.

This is your South Carolina Correspondent checking in. Was really impressed with him last night (against admittedly not brilliant opposition). I liked him in midfield v Arsenal 1st home game of the season and I liked him at Southampton a couple of weeks ago. I think it's his position especially if he can act as Charlie Adam's minder.
Shame I'm not here next week as I'd like to see a) if he's picked for the Honduras game and b) how Palacios does. That said listened to the prick on ESPN on their equivalent of SSN call the Panama Custodian a Goaltender...
My lad over here reckons there's a bit of interest in Jozy Altidore. On the basis of the Germany (reserves) game and last night, there's something there.
How's the weather in Blighty, it's nearly 100F here. Still mad dogs and Englishmen and all that....

Hmm. There does seem to be lots of G-Cam love flying around stateside... NY TimesCentral defense is Cameron’s best position but you would not know that based on his performance against Panama. With Jermaine Jones out with a concussion, Cameron put on a spectacular performance on both sides of the ball. His pass sprung Bradley on the first United States goal and his assist on the second was remarkable. On defense he was equally impressive breaking up plays and quickly transitioning the ball into the attack. He was the difference-maker on both sides of the ball. Rating: 8.0 and Man of the MatchKlinsmann“We asked him to, obviously, win a lot of balls back, cover the two center backs and have a strong, strong presence in there,” Klinsmann said. “I don’t how may balls he recovered – he was constantly there.
“And then we asked him to play it simple, and he did that. Once you hit that ball, keep it simple and find Michael Bradley, find the players around him and cover up the center backs. He was huge. It was a huge performance by Cameron.”Sports IllustratedM, Geoff Cameron, 8 - What a difference a position makes. Slotted into central midfield in place of the concussed Jermaine Jones, Cameron turned in his finest showing on the international level. The Stoke City man roamed the midfield with authority, provided tremendous cover for Gonzalez, Besler and Evans, winning balls with regularity, while also distributing at an extremely accurate rate on both ends of the field. He won the ball that sparked the goal-scoring sequence for the opening tally and put an absolutely perfect pass in Eddie Johnson's path for the second goal. At one point, the versatile Cameron was the center back of the future and then he was in the mix at right back. It's clear his strengths as a player shine in the midfield, though.

Looking forward to the prospect of our midfielders being given permission to pass the ball forwards next season.

Seeing I live in Seattle, I went to the game. Cameron was brilliant also altidores positioning was perfect. I am at the airport now of to Vegas for work and team panama is infront and behind me. After talking to coach valdes in line it was evident he was impressed by our Cameron. He also said Altidore was his defenses main threat. Really nice guy.
