So we could fall from 11th to 17th on Sunday if my admittedly perfunctory calculations are right. It's even possible we could pip West Ham for 10th.
Is it still about £700-800k per league place? £5m would buy a decent player even in these mad times...
I wonder how TP will approach the game?

It hasn't mattered in previous seasons. We have always slid a few places in the final few games of season. 40 points has been accomplished........job done.

Well considering one of the Chairman's main aims is to try and get us self-sufficient I would say it does matter. £5 mill would stop TP moaning about funds for front of house, he could buy another Whitehead with that. It's crazy that despite how poor we've been for a very large chunk of this season and that we're going to finish with our lowest points total since we returned to the top division, we're still on course for our highest finish in terms of league position.
It's been a funny old season all round.

Looking at the relevant fixtures we could lose and still get 14th or 13th: Man CityvNorwich should be a Citeh win if only because the players want to impress the new guy NewcastlevArsenal Magpies to steal a point and overtake us. Hopefully Arsenal to miss out on Champions League SouthamptonvStoke Inevitable 1 goal defeat, Southampton pass us. No Adam just when he was playing well SwanseavFulham Fulham might get a point but GD will be one worse than ours. They will get in Europe as they are top of the plucky little Fulham god bless em League Table TottenhamvSunderland Come on you Spurs. West HamvReading Can't see the Biscuitmen dunking the Hammers, or it being relevant as we will lose. WiganvAston Villa Come on you Wigan (they will already be down most likely but could be a draw, and our addiction to odd goal defeats means we will stay above Villa?) I suppose one motivational tactic might be to base TP's redundancy on how high we finish

Even with a 2 or 3 goal defeat, with our goal difference, you can't really see us dropping lower than 14th at worst looking at the tough fixtures for the teams below us.
But it really is a shot to nothing. If ever a game was crying out to be attacked, it's this one.

Just thinking about this and looking at the final fixtures for each team around us.
Our goal difference is important - a big thanks to Bego for this as our performance in front of goal has been woeful.
I'm guessing at 13th and hoping for higher.
The crowd were magnificent yesterday (Have been for most of the season) and supporters deserve an all out effort for 3 points next Sunday!
At least we are safe however!

Failure to see off Bolton and Wigan at home in recent seasons have seen us slide and lose £millions on the last day, that would have perhaps paved the way for somebody like Huddlestone to sign

Wonder how clueless will approach the match? Ermmm, just look where Southampton have come from, will give you a clue. sorry I forgot the irony smiley And I called him TP, for the record... Here's another one. Is it a good job TP didn't let Begovic go up for last minute corner at Fulham? The goal they might have scored on the break would have tipped the GD their way...and cost us 800k

10th to 17th, we could finish as high as 10th.
Unlikely I grant you but so is 17th so if we are going to set out the range of possible finishing places we may as well be right including the freak possibilities at both ends of the spectrum.
Potterpaul, I don't understand why you say it "hasn't mattered" in previous seasons? Of course it's mattered, if you mean we haven't done the business on the last day of the season in previous seasons then that's true, but it sure as shit has mattered. £5m is another player.

How important is that 1 final position in the table to the owners etc though? If we won away at Southampton for example, West Ham lost and we finished top 10 it'd look good. However lose while others win and a finish in 17th could be constituted as just scraping survival. It's an interesting scenario.

Let the "bus parking" commence.
"Nah Nige" Theyve been in the premier league much longer than us and they've also won the FA Cup. Where they keep getting these young players from though is a mystery to me. Someone mentioned The Academy which I thought was a disco in Hanley."
