that was my first season watching stoke, the 2-0 win against reading a few weeks before was my first game.i thought it would always be like that!!! nigel gleghorn is my favorite ever stoke player, loved him as a kid,he was the first player i had on the back of a stoke shirt.
He broke my shin pad and cut my left shin to ribbons with a studs up challenge. It hurt like hell, but I couldn’t show it. I carried on playing until half time and when I came into the dressing room Micky Bernard was sick because he could see my shin bone.
I told Doc Crowe, “Just strap it, cause I’m gonna do the bastard.” There was revenge to be had.
I was 15 at the time and totally obsessed with Stoke.
I remember the Fox double save more clearly than the goal. I also remember charging onto the pitch at the end and the players being in the Boothen Stand lapping up the adulation. there was a souvenir Sentinel out a day or two later and I was on one of the photos, albeit with my face fully obscured by someone's hand- I was gutted.
92/93 will always be my favourite ever season watching Stoke, no matter what happens in the future.
