I suspect that behind the scenes the Americans have put diplomatic pressure on China to defend its forces in south Korea in a move that will possibly guarantee China greater influence and power should further actions escalate into a full blown war. I very much doubt if they have staged such an operation without China's knowledge. The Americans won't mess about on this one....I expect them to act quickly and with total force.
The Koreans won't stand an earthly , especially if China keeps out of things.

The longest range missile N Korea have in their arsenal is the Taepodong. With a range of around 6000km it would only be able to hit Alaska. However the Americans say they have intelligence that suggests they have fitted boosters to double their range. However, whichever way you look at it, this is a very dangerous regime with a 30 year old gung-ho and inexperienced puppet at the helm and very elderly cabinet of "advisors" pulling his strings all with axes to grind with the Western World.

Surely if they did fire a nuke at the Yanks (warhead permitting) it'd be shot down and then the biggest shit storm since Nagasaki would be rained down on North Korea? It's not pretty and it wouldn't be nukes but they'd be mullered.

North Korea has said it is entering a "state of war" with South Korea. It has technically been at war with the South since 1953 as no peace treaty has been signed.
