During the late 1970s and 80s, I remember Jersey cows being kept in Penkhull fields, by the ambulance station. I recall them being driven up Newcastle lane to a farm behind the Greyhound pub. I last remember this happening in the early 90s , as I'd try to avoid cow poo on my LC Yamaha motorbike. Do any Oatcakers remember this or the last time it occurred? It seems strange there was live cattle in the City within living memory.

I remember that. Sneaked out of school for a sneaky smoke and saw it. I thought it was hilarious at the time.

The old farm buildings are still there, but the land behind is being developed for housing. I went to school in Penkhull and saw the cows on many occasions,as to what year they finished being walked up,it must be early `80`s latest as the land they grazed on was sold to the hospital and there is housing on it now.

Me too They lived in the farm behind the Greyhound and were driven down to Hilton Road every morning I think, at least it felt like every morning.

Ah yes, Douggie's Field. It's all hospitals now. Used to walk home from school past there everyday back in the seventies. He was a grumpy old bugger.

I've been stopped on Caverswall Road in Weston Coyney/Caverswall by cows in the last 2 years,so it still isn't that strange a sight.
