Every time i see Wigan play im impressed with Mcarthur,Mcarthy and Maloney, all very gifted and comfortable on the ball. Now compare that with our Ws in similar poitions.Whitehead,Whelan and Walters. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/7TTgAtwUz19SBi0cvrCX.gif)

Kone would be ideal for us.
I said that before he signed for them too, he's been good.

We could well sign them but Pulis would not use them Kev
Its no good slaughtering Whelan and Walters week after week after week when all they do is the job the manager asks of them.
The personel are totally irrelevant

Maloney cost 850k. McCarthy cost 1.2M. McArthur cost 500k. A grand total of 2.55M.
450k less than Danny Collins, Ibrahima Sonko or Seyi Olofinjana.

Werrington i see your point and agree mostly, bit i lose you on is that neither of ours can pass offensively or even look comfortable in posession of the ball.

No good having creative, passing players when all you want to do is avoid defeat.

Martinez keeps finding little gems like these doesn't he.? It would be a bit like Tonge, Soares, Ness and Edu being half descent?

If Pulis was ever to resign or be sacked i would have Martinez in a flash mate. No cash, constantlly selling his better players for huge profits and piss poor crowds. He is an excellent manager

Signed as an 18 year old three and half years ago and now a first team regular. He'd be out on loan at fucking Carlisle if Pulis had signed him.

Not sure If I agree with you.
Always down the bottom, and haven't really kicked on compared to Bruce's reign at the club. He has signed quite a few duds as well.
Maybe a bit over rated for my liking while talking a good game. Still young, though, we will see. I still think the only man out there to replace Pulis would be Benitez.

Maybe they do have an excellent scouting system mate? I'd like to see how Martinez would go on if Wigan had more financial clout, bigger fan base etc. granted, they struggle every season, but that has a lot to do with the fact they have to constantly sell their best players?

It could be Martinez I guess, just recall them finding the likes of Palacios and Valencia under Bruce and Jewell so they must have some decent scouts. Always wondered how Martinez gets this reputation that sees him linked to big jobs when he isn't doing any better than his predecessors.

I said this before when a martinez/wigan thread cropped up, put huth and shawcroft in wigans back line and they would be pushing for europe, they are gash at the back and they have NEVER had c. 90 million to do anything about it.
Steve Bruce hit the nail on the head when he left wigan to go to sunderland and bought his first players - its like being able to shop at Harrods after spending the last 2 years in Aldi.
The only doubt for me in martinez's make up is the defensive sid of his game - everything else is light years better than pullis and his hoof ball /out muscle the opponent type of football.

They've never exactly troubled the top scoring end of the charts for all their pretty football though have they? And Martinez spends £4-5m a year on new centre halves and they never get any better at the back.

I don't think there is a much better player suited to the currently Adam role, that we could realistically attract than Maloney. When we lump the ball forward, and it is knocked down to usually the player behind the target man, we generally don't have the passing ability there. Maloney could be that guy to play the through balls after the knock down.

Rob I think it's worth noting the way Wigan play and that is another reason for his plaudits. They do play some great stuff.
