A match report from Mondays reserve game as I'm trying to be given the go ahead to do the academy match reports for the official site as there seems to be none whatsoever on there.
A youthful Stoke reserve side produced a gritty performance to beat their West Brom counterparts by two goals to nil this afternoon. Stoke fielded a team with no first team experience and included many of this years Under-16’s in their line up. The game started scrappily, not helped by early injuries to Nathaniel Wedderburn for Stoke and Tininho for West Brom, and it wasn’t until the 8th minute before the first real opening was created, with Baggies striker Josh Knight beating the Potters offside trap but struck his shot straight at Stoke keeper Danzelle St.Louis-Hamilton. This stung the Potters into action and three minutes later Stoke strikers Louis Moult and Warwick Alexander played a neat one-two that left Moult through on goal, the young hitman tried to round Carlin in the West Brom goal only for the keeper’s outstretched hand to palm the ball away from him. Not to be denied Moult chased the ball down and after waiting for support crossed the ball in but, with Jimmy Phillips lurking at the back post, the ball glanced off Matthew Pike’s head and was cleared away. The visitors almost took the lead shortly after the quarter hour as Lake-Gaskin chased down a through ball and after cutting inside Ashely Page, put in a low cross aimed towards his strike partner Knight at the far post but Potters full back Diao-Jimenez cut it out, scooping the ball over his bar for a corner. The visitors had the next strike on goal five minutes later as Joss Ladabie broke from midfield and struck a rasping drive from 25 yards that flew inches wide of the far post, with St.Louis-Hamilton stretching. From the resulting goal kick Stoke won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, Louis Moult brought down and Jimmy Phillips stepped up to powerfully curl the ball across goal and towards the top corner only to see Carlin grasp it and deny him the crucial opening goal. The only other action of note before half time, in a fast paced if somewhat short of clear opportunities, was Potters striker Warwick Alexander getting cautioned for not retreating at a free kick. West Brom started the second half brighter and Ladabie had his second long range effort fo the day, but again missed the target, St.Louis-Hamilton watched his latest effort go wide somewhat more comfortably than the first. Although the game was even in terms of possession and territory it was the Baggies who again could have opened the scoring on 55 minutes when Lake-Gaskin spun and shot from 10 yards but heroic defending from Page saw the ball cannon off him, and spin up and easily into the arms of the Stoke keeper. Stoke the broke quickly upfield and won a free kick after the front two again combined well, Alexander turning his man and playing in Moult who was barged to the ground 20 yards out when he looked set to pull the trigger. The free kick was swung into the far post where a scramble saw the ball fall at the feet of Alexander 8 yards out, who smashed the ball home for the opening goal of the game, and also open his account for the reserves. Stoke were starting to look comfortable and were dominating possession when Alliyu, on as a sub for the visitors, gave them a scare when he turned on the edge of the box but fired his shot well wide. The game then got a bit too physical with both Phillips for Stoke and Pike for West Brom booked for rash tackles before Alliyu raced past the home defence and when given the task of slotting the ball past St.Louis-Hamilton he blazed over sparking a series of harsh comments from his teammates as he held his head in his hands. The game was wrapped up for Stoke in the 83rd minute when Jimmy Phillips played Moult in behind the defence only to see the City striker hauled to the ground to win a penalty. It was left to captain Tom Thorley to step up and drill the ball into the top corner to seal a hard fought victory for the Potters. Stoke (4-4-2): St.Louis-Hamilton, Diao-Jiminez, Connor, Page, McDonald, J.Phillips, Yilmaz(Urwin 67), Thorley, Wedderburn, Alexander(Vickers 77), Moult Subs not used: Ho, Cohen, Watson West Brom (4-4-2): Carlin, Pike, Tininho, Hancox, Holmes, Ladabie(Alliyu 65), Nicholls(Samuels 55), Worrall, Knight, Lake-Gaskin(Sawyers 65) Subs not used: Saied, Lloyd-Weston

They need the academy web pages sorted. It's meant to be the life blood of a club and I for one would love to know how they are going on but You can't find out. Most people don't know any of the players by name and in my eyes that is a damn shame. There should be a team photo of the first team squad and academy and player profiles of everyone that plays for the first team, reserves and the academy team.

Good report - I hope they give you the chance to report on the Academy games.
BUT (there is always a but!) do proof read your stuff if you do get the job. Lots of typos in there which you would pick up if you did a proper job of proof reading. I don't mean this to sound over critical. I just think a LITTLE bit more care would make a good report even better.
Good Luck
PS - I'll list the typos if you want but I'm sure you'll find them yourself.

Buxton. Good piece. Why not ask admin on here for an Academy section to add these reports and other information? You didn't mention the hailstones though.

buxton- I know that Pennock is extremely pissed off with the lack of coverage his lads get.
He would be delighted if you became a regular reporter for the academy. I'm sure the club would be more than willing to let you do it as well.
I think to many people SCFC is just the first team. It is far more than that, and it is about time the academy (our future) was shoved into the public eye

Totally agree with what Knowlsey has just said. I have told the club on many occasions that if they want more people to join the Potters' Foundation the LEAST they should do is give them regular reports on Academy games.

"Stoke were starting to look comfortable and were dominating possession when Alliyu, on as a sub for the visitors, gave them a scare when he turned on the edge of the box but fired his shot well wide."
Well wide! I think it was a bloke walking his labrador in The Lyme Valley who got the ball back in the ground.
The hailstones did add some entertainment.
Does anyone here who goes, sit in The Apollo Flooring Stand? If so - why? The sun shines directly in your face. Me, I go in the opposite terrace for the shade.
