very surprised at this.
i can see him wanting to give up the england job but his form wasnt too bad to retire from all cricket.
better to gou out after winning ashes series than losing them i suppose.
I think KP will be back

just read on twitter, Boycott has been analysing his latest dismissal and has made comments that Strauss's eyes may have gone.
surely contacts could be worn though?

Cheers for everything Andrew, Captain of a Golden Age - can't say higher than that. Suspect the full story of why now will come out later, he hasn't been nursing an injury though has he??

Rory Jiwani @roryjiwani @lgh87 More like a boxer who gets hit more often than before. About seeing the ball and reacting. Think reason why Nasser quit.

Was also a bit surprised he retired from all forms of cricket.
Capatained the team through a golden period and had some fantastic innings.

Cheers Straussy!
One of the best captains we've had and a fine opening batsman.
Who will open the batting now with Cook?

I think they said on telly that he's statistically the best skipper we've ever had. And despite his recent problems with the bat I think his average was largely unaffected by the captaincy.
Will definitely be missed.

Cheers Straussy! One of the best captains we've had and a fine opening batsman. Who will open the batting now with Cook? probably Trott will be given the role to start with, although its not ideal. im not really up on our situation with openers? i know weve got a list a mile long for middle order batsmen, but my knowledge of openers is very little as i havent had to look past Cook & Strauss for years

A good captain who I think England will miss , a marvellous opening batsman with 21 test centuries who will be difficult to replace in the short term .Well played Straussy a fine innings !

I'm worried about the England cricket team.First Kevin Pietersen was dropped, and now Andrew Strauss has resigned. At this rate, it won't be long before we have to start picking English players.

Legend but if he goes on to become a tory mp he can shove his cricket bat up his arse.
