Dead mans shoes is great.
'A room for Romeo Brass' is also a must, if only for Paddy Considine's character. One of films great character potrayals. Up there with 'Don Logan' from Sexy Beast. which is also a must see.

to cheer you up - Enchanted to bring you back down - The Deer Hunter
Both fantastically written. Enchanted, although Disney, is a seriously underrated film and very much aimed at adults as much as kids. It's hilarious and a real mickey take of several previous Disney offerings. Loads of great one-liners too.
The Deer Hunter is probably my favourite film of all time. Defines the word 'epic'.
