I got down to 2% a while ago and it wouldn't let me set a record for a 30min program which needed 3% as everything I record I mark as keep. This is on one of the original 40GB/20 hour boxes. I've only got 8% on my HD box now. Monday nights game in HD is still on there using 16%. I can't bring myself to watch it again

How is HD? I've just got a new plasma and want it! Trouble is I've read very bad things about the quality of the boxes, the sound on HD broadcasts, the watching of recorded HD stuf... I could go on!
I was offered a box for £149 from sky with the £60 money for nothing fee (sorry, installation). Told em as soon as they match the £99 + £15 that new customers get to get back to me.
Rumours are boxes will be £99 in the next couple of weeks mind...

Rumours are boxes will be £99 in the next couple of weeks mind... The boxes are pretty poor quality for the price that Sky charge. The rewind/ffwd function is nowhere near as fluid as the normal +boxes. The 160gb you get for personal use off the hard disk (the other 140gb is for Sky Anytime) isn't really big enough. You can only get 20 hours of HD stuff on it. The drive can be changed pretty easily but with the reliabilty problems you don't really want to invalidate the warranty! I've never had any problems watching recorded HD stuff but Ive read about some that have. The sound on HD channels can have the lip sinc out but if your connected to a 5.1 using the optical out you can add a delay to it so its all in sinc. When just running through your TV speakers the volume is quieter than its SD version. The £60 charge is a joke. It wasn't too bad for me because I was having my old +box moved upstairs replacing a normal box so I needed another cable running. When the installer turned up he replaced the whole lot. Dish, LNB and all the cabling. The HD boxes are far fussier about the signal strength and quality compared to other boxes so if your dish is looking oldish it may get replaced too. Apparently, the new boxes bening fitted now are HDMI only. The component outputs have been replaced. Whether they're more reliable remains to be seen! Despite its faults I couldn't be without it. Even now, I still think wow at some of the visuals and with even more HD channels now available if you subscribe to the full pack its getting better value. Also, SD channels look beter through an HD box. I'd recommend one as, for me, the pros far outweigh the cons.

jumborat Many thanks! Some good info there. Think i'll give it a month to see if the rumours are true about - 1. £99 for existing customers 2. Pace / Samsung boxes being available soon Also, the freesat might push that price down. paul - sky+ needs 2 cables. normal sky only needs 1. check out this link. all your questions and more answered in the forums section www.avforums.com
