'Cos he realises that he's playing one of the most boring sports there is, and finds it difficult to cope with the existentail trauma created by the dichotomy between that and his great success. (I do have a Degree in talking bollocks).

From what I see he's the best the sport has ever seen... or probably will see. The people who don't like him - as mentioned before - jealousy.
