Hellu! I'm going to buy an integrated stereo amplier for my mother's birthday! I've read some tests and have done a bit of listening. But I've been disappointed so far. I listened to Cambridge Azur A340SE (£175), Nad 315EE (£205) and Harmon Kardon 970 (£380). The Cambridge 340 and the H/K amp were too bright and did lack of bass! At least the H/K sounded a bit synthetic or even metallic at times. Nad was better in a sense, more drive so to say. But the Nad amp has no RIAA amp built into it. Neither has Cambridge 340. H/K 970 has that RIAA amp, but is above my price limit (£380). I liked the sound from the Nad amp the most, but not enough. Voices were great though. I listened to Nad and Cambridge with Dali Concept 6 (£350)speakers. The H/K 970 was connected to Klipsch large speakers (£840). None of these three amps had a loudness function, and my mum wants an amp with a loudness function (to everyone's surprise) or at least an amp where you can adjust bass (and treble) a lot. My mum likes Tom Jones, Julio Iglesias, Perez Prado, James Last, Norah Jones, Santana, Eagles, Metallica and so on. I read a test including Marantz, Cambridge Azur A340SE, Onkyo, Yamaha and Tangent 50. Marantz had the best amp according to the paper. I wonder a bit about Tangent 50. It is such a cheap amp, but could it be any good? As I understand it, originally this was a brand mark from UK? Now it's called a Danish brand mark, with it's production based in China. Anyone heard of Tangent and heard Tangent 50Amp, Tangent 100Amp or even Tangent 200Amp? The Tangent amps have no loudness function either, but it's possible to adjust the bass and treble functions +/- 14 dB, a lot that is!! Now she has an old amp from Sonab (Swedish, but made in Japan). The Nad amp sounded a bit like the one she had. I plan to listen to Tangent 50, Tangent 100, Marantz PM4001, Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer A 290R, Sony TA-FE370 and some more... What amp should I go for, (30-50W) - Any suggestions? raspberry sorbet//:musik

No idea?
I have no idea why the amps are so much cheaper in the UK than in Sweden. For example, Marantz PM4001 costs 3000 SEK (=£230) here, but I saw an english ad saying the price was £99 at some store in England. Strange.

I have an Exposure Super XX
The prices you are quoting are stupid - see if you can't get an English company to send you an amp mail order - or how about ebay UK ?

It rocks - it's fast and has great timing. No tone controls though

Get a copy of What HiFi, I currently have a Cambridge Pre and Power amp and they sound just fine, but you have to remember that the interconnects and speaker cable can play a large part in whether the musiK sounds bright or not.
