Any pottery experts out there know who this bloke is? circa 1845 This man will have been famous at this time and would have been well known for his coursing greyhounds.

Hey up, that’s Dave. Everyone knows Dave.
He was always going on about his bloody greyhounds.
Good old Dave.

I said to the lad who owns the figure that we'd get some silly remarks, I love being right.

Unadulterated fucking genius. ;D;D;D Dunno matey, but he's a ruddy-cheeked fucker isn't he? Are you sure the connection is Greyhounds? Remember Hare Coursing was popular at the time, this seems a likelier connortation than a Greyhound owner. I'd be surprised if this piece was catalogued with the manufacturers, they should be able to furnish you with more details.

It's a spill jar, you'd have put tapers/matches in the top of the bocage (the greenery part). Definitely a Staffordshire figure, I think he might be a hare courser too from the greyhounds, in the same way there are Staffs figures of long forgotten prize fighters or jockeys, but that scarf is really interesting, it looks almost like it's South American doesn't it? I'm sure it's meant to mean something. So I wonder if it's supposed to be Simon Bolivar or someone. Are there any marks on the base?

The scarf is a phallic symbol representing the closet sexuality of Abe Lincoln who is cleary the figure here. The skin-tight, pink trousers almost look as if he's not wearing any at all, and the greyhounds obviously act as a metaphor for him being someone's bitch.
