The BBC always seemed to show either Hammer Horror films or Sci fi titles on a friday night. When I was a lot younger I used to like the Quatermass things. Especially the Quatermass Experiment, about the survivor of a returning spaceship crew who gradually metamorphosed into a plant/ octopus type thingy. Huge finale in Westminster Abbey. Good stuff and in a class of its own.

The Nightmare Man was particularly good, worth a punt from Amazon for sure.
