Contemporary, succinct, relevant with an underlying agenda of PHWery.
A solid 7.0 from me.

Once there was world before Sky and the Premiership. We finished 5th in the top flight in consecutive seasons 1973/4 and 1974/5 and in 1971/2 season won what still remains our only major trophy, the League Cup. The Manager during this period was called Waddington not Pulis.
This has been the Golden Age of the richest Chairman we have ever had. I think some people are confusing success with money.......but then isn't that the modern way now for happy little consumer units.
I think teams such as Bolton, Blackburn, Aston Villa and Wolves would have gained more points under Pulis, but Liverpool etc certainly not. The man has a ceiling on his ability which he has certainly reached.

(who have actually spent more than us, if you can go back further than 4 years)

There is "no evidence whatsoever" that we won the League cup?
Mickmills - my comments were to counter the "arguably the greatest manager we have ever had"? claim.
"Success" is relative isn't it, memory fades and it's easy to forget our actual history. Alan Durban got us promoted to the top flight too but is he ever mentioned? Gudjon got us out of the hellhole of the old Divison 2. Does anyone remember the 2002-05 seasons? Have there ever been colder tuesday nights than those in Pulis's last year when Pulis served up absolutely dire shit against teams such as the mighty Rotherham? Why didn't the saviour get us promoted then? All managers need money but Waddington achieved much more than Pulis with less. European competition TWICE, a cup WIN, and far higher top flight league positions and for several seasons, a far superior standard of football.

I feel that back then clubs and players were a lot easier to manage ( no overpaid bad lads to sort out or media pressure). with regard to managers at clubs like Wolves and Blackburn I bet there supporters wish they were still there. because you can say what you like about Puliss he has done a super job at Stoke and without him we would drop.

I think that for one Brian Clough would disagree with you when talking about dealing with the likes of Billy Bremner et al. I don't believe for a second it was easier to manage a club in the 70's. And I refuse to believe that TP is only person capable of keeping us up aswell. H
