...In schools... This was unanimously endorsed at their conference as many thought that the War issue was too controversial(illegal) and glamourized by government recruitment T.V advertising. The teachers thought that recruitment in schools was therefore not appropriate and would not be endorsed by their union. A high ranking Army spokesman said that he was disappointed by this news. Well he would...wouldn't he.....?

well they have the freedom of their vote, DEMOCRACY to choose this,
its ironic that the armed forces of this country give them that freedom.
i for one am disgusted

its called advertising,
you watch t.v, and there are adverts, you dont necerserally buy everything, its just so you know that they are there if you need them.
and now the teachers are kicking off because pupils will know what the army is like. so instead of the people who want to go into the army making their own choice, its would prefere it to be a case of national service
when the army came into to N-U-L school when i was a pupil, i had a great day rolling around in the mud, throwing pretend grenades and climbing over oil bins using only 2 planks of wood and not being able to touch the ground.
but afterwards i didnt want to join, it wasent glamourised into being a holiday where we sit on a beach sipping drinks while laughing at sand monkeys as they try to work out which end of a rifle to point.
its called making your own decision on life but now they want to shelter people from the army, so instead they willl be forced to harras people in shopping centres and theme parks like they do in the states, and people will blame them and say "we are having a day out, how dare they offer to make a man of my boy", so no one will sign up. people will be forced into it, and who will be to blame
the teachers

Strictly speaking, it was not teachers voting, but members of the National Union of Teachers (one of 3 (4?) teaching Unions, at their Conference.

I'm voting against those adverts about becoming a teacher, they're neither realistic or honest.

To be honest, this is all wrong.
What the forces give is another opportunity to people who might not have made the best out of their education. It gives them a value system, teaches them things such as respect, pride, dignity and honour. More often than not they will also come out with a skill set infinitely more usable in the real world of work than a GCSE in Media Studies.
Still, in todays Britain who wants kids with a brain, respect, a sense of collective belonging and responsibility eh? No, much better we push them into A Levels and a call centre at the end of it.
Idiots.

Quite right WD,
Whilst i was addressing the sociological benefits to a career in the forces, you are as ever correct to single out the opportunities available to demolish large buildings.
And you get to kill people of course, and full and extensive travel. And a Pension.

I like those adverts the army put out there for recruitment using travel as the "theme" if you like.
They usually state countires people have been to in the force "Germany, Kenya, Iraq, Spain....." It's as if there thinking is "if we slip Iraq in there amongst Germany and Spain people won't really notice it and will be thinking about sunning it up in Spain and sign up immediately."
I think Iraq's the only bloody thing they'd be thinking about when reading it!!!

Let's be honest. They only join up because they got Mary-Jane Rottencrotch pregnant and they need to get out of the country and lie low.
In retrospect, i don't blame the teachers at all. Bit of National Service is what these fuckers need. I think.

All they need is a good leader to look up to vestan. A strong leader could teach them a lot.
Like Gareth said in the office, you don’t need some wishy-washy person leading people, someone who makes jokes all the time; you need someone authoritative, someone who will stand up tall and say “come with me over this hill, follow me to your certain death”.
It can only be a good thing for them.

Quite right. A spot of certain death never hurt anyone. Character building, really.

You only get a pension if you stay in/survive for a set amount of years and even then you may have to wait until you're sixty! You also missed out how it trains you to drink vast amounts and stay reasonably coherent. (Some may say this is the most difficult training)

22 years for a full immediate pension, only 7 to go for me 9 for the wife
cannot fucking wait, the drinking has been great but somtimes you just want to move on.
if it was not for the pension 75% of serviceman with over 12 years service would leave tomorrow
