Just a shame she tried to run the country like a dictator, if she listened to her ministers and advisers more maybe she would have done better and we wouldn't have had to endure smug git Tony Blair and now Gordon Brown.

They will be gone shortly and go down as the worst government ever to run this country. Good riddance the bunch of closet Nouveau riche pricks.

.........yes much greater than Disraeli who gave us civil amenities, sanitation, expanded suffrage, introduced a proper education system etc or Churchill who helped win the war, or Attlee who gave us the NHS and the welfare state.......let's all praise the bitch who ruined communities and society and then handed over her "legacy" to a bunch of useless qunts like Blair and Cameron who were/will be incapable of controlling this dysfunctional country.
Cameron will be as bad as Blair - the only difference will be that even more essential public services will be contracted out to parasites in the private sector - It'll cost more, perform much worse, take jobs from our area but still the fooking chavs, celebrity nonentities and fundamentalists will have a field day.
Her achievements were what exactly? Did law and order improve? did we achieve a sensible legislative balance with Europe? did we all get richer? (oh yes, council tax and privatisation of the utilities certainly brought my bills down!!! - that's sarcasm by the way) She sold our industrial heritage and genuine working class tradition down the river, made us a laughing stock as a world power, created the boom and bust and speculator economy and handcuffed us to those twats across the Atlantic. Thatcher - SOLD the strong bone in the spine of Briton to the highest fooking bidder!

Nice piece of crap Godo.
The NHS and Welfare State have been, and will continue to be, a millstone around this country's neck. Both post-war Labour giveaways that have done nothing but create new unwanted social classes in our society. Add nationlised industries to the argument and we had (have) an inefficient ineffective bag of tax payer funded shit that is difficult to turnaround.
'Ruined communities' - utter shit. All a 'community' is in your eyes is a mining estate. The mines shut, people move away to find work elsewhere, whoopy fucking doo. Your 'community' was funded by the tax payer and wasn't much liked outside the communities themselves. So communities and society broke down because the Tories shut the pits? - get real.
'Laughing stock' - you'll find we were a laughing stock in 1979 and for many decades before that. In 1997 we were far from being a laughing stock as our crippled, badly run, old fashioned nationised industries had been removed and replaced by service and financial industries (take a look at how many countries followed the UKs lead).
And how would we have kept 'our working class traditions' when we couldn't compete with cheaper foreign competition? I know, pour more fucking tax payers money into dead end coal and steel.
There was a 'working class tradition' centred around pubs. Remember them? Labour have certainly done their best to ruin that particular industry.
Did we all get richer? Of course we did - it's just that too many people are too thick to see it.

She's on mine as well.
Did a lot wrong did Thatcher, but at least she had a set and stood steadfastly by her beliefs. She'd be considered a dinosaur now of course because modern politicians bend whichever way the breeze is blowing.
Love her or Hate her, at least she evokes fucking emotion, and that emotion comes from a woman backing herself and standing by her political beliefs (i.e. - why you elected them). Can you ever imagine yourself saying that about this crop?
Personally, i though she was a meglomaniacal bitch-whore from hell.

thedee - "Biggest fucking crock of shit ever posted on this MB"
How can I argue with that sort of intelligence, wit and insight?
squareball - I'm still waiting for that list of achievements? It's amusing that you automatically assume that my idea of a community is a mining estate but then Thatcherite's wouldn't know any better because "there's no such thing as society " is there? I remember what this city was like in the late 60's and 70's and if you think Thatcherism was a form of progress then you can't have got much further than your blinkered view of a world that consists of nasty miners estates and nice houses in the Westlands. Ask the Yanks if they'd like the NHS?

'I remember what this city was like in the late 60's and 70's'
So what? Remember that the 60's and 70's were the bad days of nationalised industry - strikes, inefficiency, waste. That probably wasn't important to you as long as you and your mates were getting paid a good wedge thanks to the tax payer?
Who cares if our cars were shit, our coal expensive and services crippled by strikes? You had a great time in Stoke in the 60's and 70's so bollocks to everyone else.
Like most Labour supporters you're stuck in the past and for some strange reason are fiercely proud of an outdated, poorly managed system - 'glory' days of the pits etc.
My view is that society has changed more due to the mobility of the workforce and that fewer people live close to work colleagues. Something that was more common if you worked in the pits or steel works.
Nothing much has changed in general but some people still can't get their head around the fact that things have changed. It's not any worse than it was - just different.

Squareball - I'm a project manager who divides his time between working in Stafford, Leeds and Longton (there's a mix for you ) and I've never worked in the Mining Industry. Sorry that I don't fit your stereotype. We have the worst of both worlds in this country - weak kneed liberalism so we don't tackle crime etc and selfish, narrow minded stupidity that prevents us from making collective demands for a better society. Obviously I'm a blinkered lefty but the only people who seem to have got richer ( apart from those who have inherited parents property during the boom years) are celebrities/footballers/soap stars and wankers in the property/financial sector. If that's the new back bone of the country then God help us!

The whole Falklands stuff - correct me if I'm wrong, but she pretty much manufactured the whole war? Moving our ships away from the Falklands at a time when the Argentinian government was desperate for any kind of victory to whip up some patriotism? Hold on a minute, that sounds familiar...
Not arguing about the Belgrano though, I've no objection to her sinking it.
