Ramones 1st lp and the stooges debut. Can't choose between the two and wouldn't want to. Both my personal faves followed by the clash 1st and ac/dc highway to hell.

Agree with many choices here, but I always go back to London Calling. A brilliant band at it's brilliant best, and sadly probably Britains last great rock band.

Good point citizen! Exponents of all the good genres. Wear the influences on their sleeve. Dub, electronic, rock n roll. They have rinsed the lot. Quality band. Lets not forget the jesus and mary chain too!

An impossible question, really, but if I had to take one LP to my desert island it would be 'Safe as Milk' by Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band.

Can I be greedy and chose one from each decade? 60's: Velvet Underground featuring Nico. 70's: Hunky Dory 80's: Daydream Nation 90's: What's The Story Morning Glory 00's: Kid A EDIT: I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Marquee Moon and Exile On Main Street, determined that one day the penny is going to drop for me - sadly it never has, there must be something wrong with me!

Funny that, I once listened to OK Computer 6 times over three days to see what I wasn't getting - loads of recommends from usually reliable sources.

This thread just notes the problem, there's about 20 albums here that I'd agree with as the best album.
I'm gonna throw Abbey Road in there.

This is a dangerously uncool thing to say, but I find I generally lose interest with Daydream Nation and normally don't make it to the end of the album. Possibly a symptom of top-loading it with Teenage Riot as an opening track. I've always been a massive admirer of Pulp's This is Hardcore, and have been conscious of the fact that the album is put together in absolutely excellent order. The songs do lend themselves to having an overall narrative though as you go through Jarvis' psychosis and come out the other side, and they piece them together perfectly. Different Class is faultlessly put together too but not as good a record in my opinion.

Sister is my fave sonic youth lp. It's just fucking magnificent for us to be talking about them on here
