Other than the time you saw Wayne Thomas in Greggs?
If so I'd be interested to know the details. Where was it? What happened? Was it positive? Negative? What did you talk about?
I'm considering penning an article on those awkward fan meets player moments and would welcome any input from those willing to share a story. (It doesn't have to be a Stoke player- any footballer would do)
PM me if you're embarrassed to post the gory details here, and I'll make sure you keep your anonymity (unless you really demand otherwise). Obviously don't post anything libelous when broadcasting the details of any exchange that was less than pleasant.
Thanks- this could be interesting. Or perhaps not. ;D

Met James O'Connor on a coaching course a couple of years ago.
He was one of my heroes as a kid (strange I know!) due to his work ethic more than anything else.
We spoke briefly and he was kind enough to sign a Stoke top for me. He seemed a really nice guy although pretty shy

I was presented with a £5 WH Smith voucher by Toddy Orlygsson at a school presentation in about 1994.
Met Andy Griffin at his house in Barlaston when my Dad did a bit of work for him a few years ago. Think he'd just signed for Derby. His mum made us a brew. Forgot to put my sugar in.

Knocked on James O Connors door when I was about 13, asked him if he wanted his car washing.
He looked moody as fuck and I was star stricken.

Lot's! I used to meet a lot of Stoke players back in 2003 when I was a barmaid in a hotel - lot's of funny stories about John Halls and Gerry Taggart! More recently, met Jermaine out in town - was a bit drunk so don't think he were too impressed! Met Rory in the academy (due to a very nice friend) and just went weak at the knees what a lovely bloke!

Met James Coppinger in Asda. He was doing some proper shady late night shopping but spoke to us a bit and seemed a decent lad.
Also met ex Doncaster captain Graham Lee in the cinemas. We walked up to him and his bird who had just entered the cinema and my mate said something along the lines of 'you shouldn't have left Wednesday mate.' He shit his pants and promptly left.
Met the whole of the Rovers squad at my local golf club as well. They had all come for a round and I had to play my shot onto the 18th green waiting as Neil Sullivan waited to cross in his buggy. Managed to not shank it and hit it about 5 feet away. Managed to get all the players mixed up which was slightly embarrassing and offended them when I said I was stoke fan.

This could be an interesting one...player hassles fan. ;D How did he open the conversation, and did you recognise him straight away? (And had his wig blown off on one of the rides?) My old man was telling me the other day how he was stood next to Pulis in Netto of all places. He didn't speak to him but that's what got me thinking about whether there's any mileage in this as a subject.

Many moons ago a work colleague asked me to drive Noel Blake, Lee Sandford and Carl Beeston to the opening of a 24hr snooker marathon for charity that her husband was playing in as she didnt drive. I picked them up from some pub in Clayton (I cant even remember the name of) and got them all into the back of my 1981 Ford Fiesta with my mate in the passenger seat. They'd all had a few jars and Lee Sandford was acting the goat big time and I'll never foget Blakey telling 'Sandyman' to shut up over and over again with real menace until we arrived at the snooker hall. Anyway they were all great guys and a photo even appeard in the Sentinel of the 3 of them starting the snooker-a-thon.

Met a few ex-Stoke players up here in Sheffield. Simmo, Beattie and Buxton.
The one of note was when I met James O'Connor when he played for Wednesday a year or so ago. He found it strange that I asked for his autograph 9 years after he left us. He commented that he was disappointed that not many Wednesday fans had asked him but he was pleased that I had. He was a really sound fella.

Met loads over the years:
Mark Prudhoe - belting laugh. An absolute character and a half. Had me in stitches in seconds. Lee Sandford - erm, yes. Noel Blake - Nicest bloke in football. Beast of a bloke, but a gentle giant. Deceptively knowledgeable. Dave Kevan - Another nice bloke. Carl Beeston - Top bloke Brian Rice - Couldn't understand a word he said. Toddy Orlygsson - ditto Tony Ellis - arrogant bastard. Alan Ball - Pity he was a shit manager because his passion just beamed out of him.
There are a few others i've missed probably.

Tell us what you know about John Halls! ;D Haha to be honest he was actaully a nice lad always said hello to me if he saw us out in town but he thought he was a right play boy - he lived with this random mate of his from down south in the hotel before he bought his house, constanly having parties in his room bringing loads of girls back, drinking in the bar, kept ringing us on the bar having a chat n everything. Once me and my friend had to take room service to his room and couldn't tell you how many people were in is bed lol - tbh just a typical footballer - it was funny though, his mate though he was right something as well said he was a magician or summert random, they looked a right funny couple lol. A lot more pleasant than Noel-Williams though!

I bumped into Ronaldo once in Manchester,he spent 10 minutes rolling around on the ground looking for a penalty. ;D did he have a wooly jumper on? if so its because they hire him to clean the floors in the town. the amount of time he spends on the floor the dirt sticks to his jumper and the grease acts as polish ;D ;D

When I was about 10 I lived in the next street (nursery avenue, baddeley green) to Lee chapman, George berry and Mark and Neville chamberlain. Think Stoke liked that street!

Garth Crooks was a few years behind me at school, plus he only lived a few streets away. My old man was in the same year as Mark Bright at high school and hates him with a passion. According to him he was an average player and my old man always turns the volume off if Bright is commentating ;D

Joe Jordan was in the buffet car in front of me on the euston to Manchester train sometime in the 80's and he was playing for the Shit. I asked him if Stoke would stay up that year, we were struggling as usual, and he said yes they were a good side. We had just played the shit. We did stay up that season and I was glad when we appointed him as manager for a while........ And I'm boring myself typing this............ Oh I was pretty pissed and wouldn't have said a word otherwise.

Met Carl Saunders, he used to come into the casino in Hanley when I used to work there. He bought a pair of shades off me! He was a decent enough bloke, good sense of humour and down to earth, he was a bit tight though, never gambled much when he was there.

Bumped into Pugh once on the stairs. meet conroy and smith , speechless when I met wilko, god knows why. Remember as a young child my grandad having a lengthy chat with Gordon Banks.at a fete. I have banned one daughter from collecting autographs.3 players that she got the autograph of, left soon after. so I jokingly did not let her get mattys.
