Housewife Kate Knight has been jailed for 30 years for poisoning her husband with anti-freeze.
Knight, aged 28, was convicted last month of attempting to murder Lee Knight by lacing his food with ethylene glycol on their seventh wedding anniversary.
Mr Knight was left blind and deaf and suffered from brain damage and kidney failure following the poisoning in April 2005.
A jury at Stafford Crown Court took eight hours to convict Knight, formerly of Waterdale Grove, Meir Hay, of attempted murder following a three-week trial.
The court was told she had planned to use the £130,000 death benefit from her husband?s employer, JCB in Uttoxeter, to pay off mounting debts after forging her husband's signature to take out two secret loans for £17,000.
The jury heard that Knight, a former brewery worker, used the internet search engine Google to find a method of killing, settling on anti-freeze after considering using ecstasy or iron tablets.
Knight, who married at 19, administered the anti-freeze to her husband in red wine and an Indian takeaway he ate on their wedding anniversary.
Mr Knight, aged 37, managed to survive despite spending 10 weeks in a coma after being admitted to hospital.
He recently underwent an operation to restore some of his hearing, but still required two hearing aids and support from two specialists to give evidence at his wife's trial.
He told the court that he knew nothing of the loans, taken out in 2003 and 2004, which motivated his wife's desire to kill him and claim a windfall from his employer.
Sentencing, Judge Simon Tonking told Knight that she would serve at least 15 years in prison before she is eligible for parole.
Speaking about the impact on Mr Knight, he said: "The devastation you have brought to his life is apparent to everyone who saw him giving evidence in this case.
"But while he did so there was little or any sign of remorse on your part."
He said the offence contained "premeditated planning of a most callous kind".
The public gallery cheered and clapped as Judge Tonking read out his sentence.
Throughout the hearing Knight cried, rocked back and forth and looked shaken.
DC Martin Smith, who led the investigation, said: "Kate Knight cynically and ruthlessly plotted to murder her husband and cover her tracks.
Even when Lee was critically ill she kept secret from doctors what had caused the condition which eventually left him deaf, blind and in need of kidney dialysis. "Despite her scheming, Knight left a trail of evidence which, through detailed investigation, we were able to build into a strong case resulting in her prison sentence today. "Lee, with the help of his parents, has started to rebuild his life with his young son. Although they will always live with the terrible effects of this crime, I hope today's outcome will allow this to continue."
