I've recently acquired an old football rattle, I'm guessing from the fifties or sixties. It's painted red and white, and says "Stoke City" on one side and "Ratta" on the other.
I'm just trying to pin a date onto it, so could anyone tell me if they know of a player called "Ratta"? I've never heard of him.
Thanks!

Probably Don Ratcliffe who played for Stoke in the 50s and early 60s. Left winger with blistering pace but but his crossing sometimes let him down and stopped him being a really top class player, in my opinion. Played in our promotion winning side in 1963 and laid on the cross for our second goal in the centenary match against Real Madrid who were very complimentary about him in post match interviews. Sold to Middlesborough in 1963 for £30k.
He was a guest of the club at a game about 5 or 6 years back and I had the pleasure of a few minutes chat to him in Delilah's.

If you carried one today you would most likely get arrested for carrying a lethal weapon.
