We all come on here to say how shit Woodgate, Delap and Walters were but how about considering our own contribution. We rate our players' performance and our manager's performance but how would you rate the 'famous atmosphere' today?
We hardly made any noise when the team sheet was read out.
We were outsung by the Baggies all game.
Some dickhead behind me shouted 'Delap just fucking retire'
It was impossible to get any song going.
We were completely silent after Walters missed the penalty, didn't get behind the lads at all.
West Brom fans were singing, 'Where's your famous atmosphere' and we didn't even respond.
Cheering Woodgate getting subbed is a bit harsh... I know he's crap at right back but that's not good support.
We sung a bit of 'It's all gone quiet...' after the equalizer but we shut up completely after they scored again.
Worst of all (and this really pisses me off) hordes of people leave before the game even finishes.
That was the worse showing from our support I've seen at home since we were promoted.

Can't argue with any of that.

Totally agree with all your post mate,
I thought it got going when pennant came on and we showed a little 'attacking intent' though. It's a 2 way thing i think..

Totally agree with all your post mate, I thought it got going when pennant came on and we showed a little 'attacking intent' though. It's a 2 way thing i think.. It is a two way thing. We have dragged the team through games when we've been below par on plenty of occasions. Sometimes the players need to make it happen themselves.

I agree Jamo, so why didn't we do it today? It obviously helps the players when they are struggling. If you are playing shit and 20,000+ are still cheering you on it tends to give you a bit more confidence and determination.

I was really looking forward to today's game. It seems like months ago since we last had a home game.
At 2.45pm, when I heard the team, I knew that we would lose!
Pulis has the most amazing propensity to kill potential atmosphere before a game has even started.
The only person to blame for today's shambles is Tony Pulis and if anyone can't see that, then more fool them!

Overall I agree People turned up expecting us to win - we were, though, fucking shocking in the first half and as for the silence after the penalty miss then I think it was down to shock ! As for no singing after they scored again ? Why on earth would we ? We had 2 minutes left and by then we had been sucker punched firmly in the midriff

I can't put my finger on it exactly but when the team news filters through it isn't hard to see what's coming. The crowd always used to be flat when Ric wasn't selected and I suppose the same can be said with the issues we have on the right hand side of the team at present. Away we always back the lads as it's just what we do as we know we're up against it. At home we need to show a bit more intent and when we do we look bloody good and the crowd really buy into it.

the players can lift the crowd but we carnt use a poor performance as an excuse. The only times we ever get a decent atmosphere is against the big clubs, its the same with all clubs in the premier league.
I though West brom's fans were fantastic today, best ive seen at the Brit, but at the Hawthorns they are always silent

These players earn a good living and we pay for the privilege, I think its a bit hypocritical to keep asking the fans to put up and shut up.

Yeah Fuller makes a difference definitely. When we were losing against QPR just the sight of him warming up raised the atmosphere. Can't understand why some fans think his time is over.

It's definately a two way thing, and as of our last three home games what have we been served up toget us going that little bit? Absolutely fuck all! In fact there have been very few games at homes this season where we have played well and deserved to win. We can grind out a result and that gets us out of trouble but given the money spent particularly this summer I want a little bit more than what we've been getting. I turned up today knowing it wasn't going to be a classic, I didn't think they'd win, bit I knew what sort of game it would be. All to predictable at times I'm afraid and I can't help but think this has an affect on the fans.

I think we are both to blame. Although past 3 or 4 home games we've been shocking as fans for creating an intimidating atmosphere but then the players have hardly given us anything to cheer. Our first half performance today took us fans out of the game. apart from the odd come on Stoke and TJ's son best efforts to get delilah going but sadly quickly died off. We need to start games better at home than a few hopeless punts upfield which just frustrates us.

Oh get a grip the masses speak and they spoke with silence watching that utter crap today. Get over your we were crap stuff - the team and the tactics were so crap we all sat in numbed silence

. . . so get the Brit rocking for Sunderland then? Get Ric to warm up every ten mins and the place will be going nuts Or even start him

Sufolkstokie, isn't the whole point we get behind our team if when they are (and I agree) utter crap? No - we were so shite today the whole crowd told you the answer - moan all you like but many a vocal supporter round us, including us, just sat there in disbelief We were shite today all over the park and you think we should still be happy clappy after spending what we allowed the capped on to spend - give me a break But do not think it is me - your post tells the whole story - 26,000+ saw that shite and stayed silent

Exactly 26,000 silent. If we turn up we might as well get behind them even when they are playing shite. Or at least drop this bollocks about 'the loudest fans in the country' and all that.

Good post I totaly agree I struggle to go to some games because of work but that display from the fans was bollocks, we are meant to lift the players not shoot them down, I remember man city at home and us going down to 10 men and feeling very hard done by with the delap red card and all of a sudden this burst of noise sent tingling down my spine and not so long after that burst, Beattie launched his head at a magnificent cross to plant the ball in the net and us the fans kept the players going with a constant barrage of noise, thats how it should be!

ah...so for those saying it's a two way street...were the fans really good until they saw how shite the team were and then it went flat? No...we were shite all game.
The point in being a supporter is not to support only when things are going well...the sort of sing when your winning mentality is something we mock in other teams.
Part of the reason we had such a great home record in our first season was because we made the place so fucking intimidating. How intimidating was the Brit today?

It's not just about today though is it Tubes?
We have been creating absolutely fuck all going forward for weeks now at home.
People are simply becoming used to the fact that there isn't actually going to be anything worth cheering about before the game even starts.
And hey, as usual they were right, again.

If you go and watch a band and their instruments aren't tuned and the singer forgets the words do you clap and cheer after every song?
