I was told it was supposed to be spot on in PC World. Had it for a few months and scan regularly and it has found no problems. Just out of interest I come to do a sweep of the hard drive with SpyBot and it has picked up about 9 high level security risks on the PC. Makes you wonder just how effective Norton actually is to be honest. Think I have been done up good and proper here

Norton's always been terrible mate. Search for AVG in google - by far the best anti virus program out there, free aswell.
Steer well clear of Norton though.

Norton has been and always will be a system hogging, crashing innefective peice of shit. Good advice for AVG, if not try AVAST Home edition also free for 12 months and pretty much looks after itself. We've been running Avast on 4 pcs at home for years and not a single virus. Dont forget about a firewall tho for this try ZoneAlarm free or alternativley invest in a router with a built in hardware firewall (but only if you need it). and Ad-Aware FREE for Spyware. You should be doing a manual scan every two weeks with this and you should stay clean. However its all useless if you do not browse responsibly. (Not clicking the FART button etc.) Alternativley if you do wish to pay for a set it and forget it system in my opinion have found CA to be excellent. see below. www.ca-store.co.uk/malware/internet_security_suite.aspx?sc_lang=en-GB

Ditch any of the things they sell in PC World or other electrical stores - e.g. Norton, McAfee etc...
Best I have found is AVG, Zone Alarm and then used Spybot S&D or AdAware SE. Never had any problems with that combo.

I've tried Trend, Norton, Norman, Panda and AVG (freeware). I currently use Panda on my main computer together with Spybot and Ad-Aware - works just fine! On my old portable PC I use AVG, Spybot and Ad-Aware - no problems!
Trend, Norton and Norman is overrated, expensive programs with poor support. Especially Norton is sipping CPU-resources like a computerized vampire - it's just like dipping the harddrive in syrup.

Used to have Norton but found it to be not very good, slows your PC down as well. As per previous post AVG and Avast are really good ... and free!

Norton is wank, if you stop subscribing it is near impossible to remove. As is said above AVG is the way forward. COMODO firewall is about the best you can get right now, its free, has replaced ZoneAlarm as the number 1 firewall. Spy Sweeper is the best anti-spyware by a country mile, although its £25 a year. I pay it because its THAT good.
