The speculation is over and Jay-Z will headline this year's Glastonbury Festival. Organiser Michael Eavis told the BBC (here) that it will be the '99 Problems' rapper. Eavis said he wanted to "break with tradition this time and put on something totally different". Saying he hoped Jay-Z would attract a younger audience to the event, he went on "He will appeal to the young people and under-25s for sure, so that's a big pull for them. It's not like the traditional one we do, like Radiohead, Coldplay and Muse and Oasis." eFestivals thinks the Friday headliner will be The Verve and our best guess for the Sunday headliner is currently Leonard Cohen. Make sure you keep an eye on our Glastonbury 2008 rumours page. Don't forget that those wanting to buy a ticket to this year's festival will need to register their details at www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk between 9am on Friday 1st February and midnight on Friday 14th March. Tickets will go on sale to those who have registered at 9am on Sunday 6th April. Glastonbury Festival 2008 will take place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, near Glastonbury, Somerset from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June, with the gates opening for early arrivals on Wednesday 25th June.

Ahhh 99 Problems ain't even his song - and it's a shit version. Check out the real Ice-T version . . . WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better (pity the rest of the album is cack!).
Rap ain't something I listen to but some tunes that Ice-T has produced have been very good.

I'm under 25 and I think Jay-Z is fucking toss.
He is a poor man's 50 cent, and 50 cent is wank!

Jay Z's 99 Problems improves on Ice-T's original. IMHO obv.

Jay-Z is a poor mans 50 cent?
He has been around way longer and is a LOT more successful than 50 cent... ???
Anyway, I think JayZ himself would admit he is a better producer than a rapper these days.
Still, doesn't aptly fit the festival and is just a kick in the teeth to regular Glastonbury tenters. Rap has no place in festivals imo, certainly not a respectable rock festival.

Eavis is really beginning to piss me off.
After last years festival he bleated that the festival had no atmosphere because there wasnt enough young people there. Well Eavis there isnt many young people going because you have taken all the spontaneity out of Glastonbury by this ludicrous registering nonsense. How many 16 year olds can be bothered to send in pictures of themselves months before the festival starts and then still have to sit for hours in front of computers to try and get a ticket. Many young people wont adhere to all this registering nonsense they will just go to an alternative festival as proved last year. So what does Eavis do to try and resolve the problem he gets in Jay Z who is not your stereotypical Glasto act which only serves to futher alienate the fan base already sick to death of the dogma of having to register months ahead.
Glasto is about impulse, lack of rules, being laid back not having to conform so the whole registering process completely makes a mockery of the whole glast ethos. Instead all he will have coming through the gate are organised 30-40 somethings with access to fast internet connections.
I am a total music fan and have been going to glastonbury for many years but i have to say the way Eavis is going the whole magical experience will soon dwindle away.

God awful headliners, bar the Verve. Jay Z will be about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit
can't be bothered with UK Festivals this year, so am going to Summercase in Barcelona and possibly a few more foreign ones.
wherever Daft Punk are headlining, basically.

i might still go leeds, depending on who is headlining, but i can bet now it will be some crap like franz ferdinand, the fratellies,
i still cant believe oasis are not rumoured to be doing any festivals this year, they still havent done a best of tour yet FFS! maybe leeds? proberly not, if radiohead arent doing glasto then i doubt the will do V again soon, and they dont want to do reading or leeds them im glad im going manchester
also, did anyone else try to get tickets for the music yesterday, my god, i hate seetickets.com with a passion. so so so much would i like to blow up their offices

First two albums were fantastic, but aside from a few alright songs in the last few years, the band are well past it. Liam's singing has taken a massive nosedive.
Brilliant maybe, Original?, hardly
