I take no satisfaction in predictiing this rout against a poor poor Bolton side.
We have always had problems with ball retention in the fullback areas and central midfield, but we were at least pretty solid defensively.
Now Pulis has tried to fix something that wasnt broken and has managed to break it.
Even if we restore Wilko,Huth ,Shawcross,Higgy then we have the problem that the fullbacks hoof it and Crouch needs the ball to feet.Maybe time to go back to Kenwyn and Walters while we get some points on the board.
Weve spunkned millions on transfers and wages of players we didnt need or werent a priority whilst the fullbacks and midfield are a glaring issue after 4 seasons.
Its feck all to do with euope its poor management ,we were here last year similarly watching Huth at right back and square pegs in round holes and got out of it.NOT SO SURE THIS YEAR

Not sure its as simple as that. Whilst full back ball retention may be an issue the Hoof ball comes about from several reasons - if we play too deep, which we invariably resort to, the nearest midfielder is usually less than 10yds away and marked therefore play long or if we have space - if a central midfielder like whelan is available his usual pass is straight back to one of the back four and hoof. Definitely need a centre mid who comes looking for the ball off the back four, recieves it, turns, looks up and either moves forward and/or plays in to a forwards feet

I hope Palacios can be one of the midfielders needed, but again TP chose not to put him on the pitch. If he needs his fitness building up surely 20 minutes as sub would help and in each of the last 3 defeats he has kept him on the bench. We also do need 2 full backs who are comfortable on the ball and can pass it,especially if our wingers are being double marked as seems now always to be the case.

Jamie O'Hara would have taken it off the back four & would then look to pass the ball, instead of launching it every single time but we didnt go in for him & he was only £4m. O'Hara is no world beater but him & Palacios would have been a good pairing for us. At the minute, until Palacios is fit, we keep going with Rory & Whelan which is the worst centre midfield pairing in the division. I thought centre midfield was the most important position in football, where the game is won and lost?? We've spend millions in the last 3+ seasons on players, but we are still lining up with Rory and Whelan, the same two who werent that good in the championship. Beggers belief!!! We are so predictable its untrue. The opposition just need to double up on our wingers when they get it, knowing that no Stoke player is going to offer any goal threat breaking from centre midfield because they are not mobile enough and play too deep. If you can stand up to Stoke's hopeful launch forwards, which teams are getting alot better at dealing with, then the opposition has a really good chance of winning the game. Crouch will score goals if the service is there but there's no service to the strikers at all. Ever since the Adi Akinbuyi days, a Stoke striker has to be able to make his own chances, because very little in the way of service is ever going to come his way. This is why Fuller has been so effective, as he has a mix of pace and power which is vital when there is no service. At the moment, £10m on Crouch seems a big waste when we needed to spend that money on a centre midfielder and 2 fullbacks who could also overlap and offer something going forward as well. Why did Pulis play Palacios on Thursday and not yesterday?? If Palacios was only fit enough to play 1 game in a week, surely he should have played in yesterdays match. The premier league is our bread and butter, not this europa league which we are not going to win
