We have scored six goals from open play out of ten premier league games this season. I've just had a quick glance at the rest of the football league and we seem to have the worst scoring record from open play in the entire football league.Even taking into account that other teams in the lower leagues have played more games, on average I think we are the worst. Extremely worrying indeed and I cannot see it improving when our shots on goal per match is averaging about 3/4.

Big deal.
No worry whatsoever.
We play percentages from set plays.

He's making a very valid and legitimate point. Defensively we are *usually* sound enough but we rarely look like scoring.
The sad fact is that a number of our key players are suffering a loss of form for whatever reason and the players we've brought in to take us to the 'next level' either aren't fit enough to play, don't get picked or are sadly lacking any kind of service.
Added to that is the fact that the manager seems intent on self-destructing by either leaving out our best defensive player (who by the way also chips in with about 8 goals) or plays the old square peg in a round hole routine.
We now lack creativity from both the wide positions and midfield, so yes, where are the goals going to come from??

And I think 4 of these goals have come from blocking their keeper or pushing a defender when putting a header in.

I would like us to set the record for the team to score the fewest goals in the PL whilst avoiding relegation.
I would also like us to score over 50% of our goals direct from corners and the remainder from deflections off the referee.
GO ON STOKE.

There was Kenwyn's header at Norwich, Shotton's chargedown at WBA, and Walters flick in the penalty box at home to Fulham. The rest were from setpieces as far as I can remember

Big deal. No worry whatsoever. We play percentages from set plays. We were scoring more when we were mixing that up at the back end of last season with some good stuff in open play and battering teams at home scoring 3,4,5 goals at a time. Now we're back to relying almost exclusively on set pieces. Can you spin that as a good thing march?

When we're on form our high tempo style is no match for most teams at The Brit. We look dangerous all over the park and play some good stuff to boot.
When we struggle we revert back to type. Full backs launch it long, we try and pick up the 2nd ball or win a thrown in for Delap to fire in.
The biggest problem for me at the moment is the fact that our two widemen are clearly not fit and haven't been all season. They are vital to the way we play, the service to the front players on Monday was non-existant can hardly remember a cross in the box at all.
But Pulis has to take a lot of the blame for this by bringing in no cover out wide at all. As much as I despise him El Hadj Diouf would have been an ideal short term solution to the problem.

We have basically scored three, none of them classics, which makes your original point even stronger.

Take it this response also is meant for likes of March, Stokielad it's meant for anyone peddling the same tedious crap to be fair. Not bothered what side of the fence (apparently there is one although we're all Stoke fans) people are on, just give an opinion and where possible back it up with facts. Not the same shitty soundbites that mean fuck all apart from making you look like a moaning twat (yes I see the irony ;D)
