I walked past that fateful manhole cover many times...within 20 yards of it with my girlfriend at the time,...It still haunts me to this day,and that is gospel truth. We used to enjoy quiet tranquil beauty spots

I remember it I was 7 at the time, and the summer the year after was ace Your same age as me sidders ... and it certainly was ... the tarmac in the playground melted, and we had to have a week off sk00l (gutted, we weren't!) ... and many many footprints probably still remain in said trmac to this day! Muff: A bit later than 1975, and I was doing much the same thing Got to be a bit creepy having walked past the thing so many times though ... "shall we just go a bit further back in the trees then love?" chunkie: Bit of a claim to fame, given how "famous" the case is/was. Bet your dad was a bit nervous at the time ... 1970's policing was almost exactly like the Sweeney protrayed it; as long as someone got nicked, no one was bothered about guilty/innocent. ah

I remember that, I can picture the front cover of the Birmingham Evening Mail with a diagram of where her body was found in the drain shaft. It clearly left a big impression on a seven year old at the time. Scary stuff.

I used to poo my pants walking through Bathpool at night. I wasn't born when it happened but lived on Chatterely Drive and used to cut through quite often - just used to leg without looking to either side.
My great uncle got questioned for it because he used to live on Chatterley Drive at the time and he had loads of hats in his car.
