For those who like this sort of thing, I had a walk in snow from home today. This is quite unusual as we don't get a lot of snow and when we do I like to climb one of the higher fells. But this morning the roads were a bit dodgy so I went for a walk up Clough Head, the mountain at the back of my house. About 3 inches of snow in the garden and up to a foot on the tops out of the wind. outdoors.webshots.com/album/562004889IqMnQeTop Tip: close your favourites and use the slideshow option.

Yes, I can walk Helvellyn from my door. If I had turned south rather than north above the cottage I'd have found myself on Helvellyn after about 5 miles.
I can quite believe that there are avalanche conditions on Helvellyn, I chose my walk today so I would not be anywhere near any avalanche slopes. The cornices on Helvellyn must be very unstable at the moment. The spindrift in the photos I took on the way to White Pike shows that the snow wasn't bonding. Very unusual for England where the snow is usually quite wet and sticky.
