With the acquisition of Palacios, Crouch and Jerome, adding these to our squad has got me thinking about the outlays we could potentially be making over the next few years seeing as we are becoming even MORE established in the big league.
These players are 3-4 year contracts as I understand.
I wonder when the time will come when Lord Coates says "right an offer has come in for player x and with all due respect Tone we need to balance the books if we're gonna become self sufficient"
Its gonna happen as it happens to all clubs, dont kid oursleves it wont happen to ours
In terms of revenue generated to salaries paid I would guesstimate that we're sailing pretty close to the threshold and something will have to give.
Anyone get that gut feeling we could lose a Shawcross or even a Jones if a big enough bid came in?
It'd be an absloute choker if it did happen but the realities of it happening are there
Playing devils advocate here....

One day probably soon it will happen.....someone with money to throw around offering to double someones salary....they'll go for it. Shit happens. Or we're getting to the end of someone's contract and they are not signing.....simple, we have to sell.
The important this is that in most positions we are now well covered for a single loss apart from the wingers.
Realistically we are looking at a Shawcross or Huth being the potential to leave for money at some point - right now we have plenty of cover and would not be a disaster, no need to get too annoyed and if done correctly there'd be plenty of money to strengthen from the sale.

Shawcross will be the first big gun to leave for a bigger club, we all know that. As for anyone else, I personally cant see any of our players leaving due to big bucks being splashed around.
Players whom we admire like Matty and Huth are vast approaching the end of their primes years, and truth be told we haven't got a HUGE name to get rid of other than Shawcross.

Robert Huth is 27, I'd hardly say that he's past his best, he could be the first big gun to leave actually, I'd be very surprised if TP hadn't received queries for Huth after last season's performance.

We'd need to sell Ryan for some serious money to make a healthy profit on him though, wouldn't we? Considering the contractual sell on clause we have with man utd, or have i made that up?

The only clause I've head about is if we get an offer we're willing to accept we have to ask Man U if they want to match the offer

I just hope that if we do sell one of our top players, then I hope we sell them for ridiculous money. Stoke have always been shit at selling players - hopefully we take advantage of Clubs willing to pay over double what players are worth.

I think Begovic will be worth well more than 10 million in a couple of years, and it wouldn't surprise me if he could be sold for that now. I think he and Shawcross will eventually go but I expect the terms will be in the form of a deal that is of maximum benefit to the club.
