Ahh Bluto Not sure but if my memory serves me right he was the scorer of the only goal the last time we beat Man U away. It was a night match and no wall to wall Sky etc in them days so it seemed to pass without much fuss. Was a bit narked and wish it had been on a Satdee

Well done, Bluto ;D

Still local I think. I know his brother Les a bit, he's a mate of my brother-in-law. Both Alan and Les are a bit lairy.

Alan was OK ( six months ago ) Really genuine bloke . right up there with Denis Smith I remember Laurie Mc menemy consider it a mystery why neither of them ever got a cap . He has had serious knee problems across the last several years .

He used to live up the road from me when I lived on The Lea in Trentham, quite a few years back now though.

Players like Alan Bloor played many many times with injuries Cortisone jabs and get out there. Some are paying a heavy price now

He used to keep a paper shop in Trentham Road in Dresden, but he lives at Trentham now near his kids. I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure his missus died. Last time I saw him was in Longton Park just after the Shawcross/Ramsay incident. I asked him his views on it. If I remember rightly, he said it was a reckless challenge for a nothing ball in that part of the pitch, but that Ramsay had pretty much done the same thing. He reckoned it was due mostly to both players' inexperience of knowing when they should be committed to that sort of challenge, but that he'd done it himself many times when he was learning his trade, and that it was an accident that could happen every week if the circumstances were the same. But he said both players would learn from it and become a really good players with a few more years on them.
He rarely goes to Stoke, and then it's only with Smithy, who he's still good mates with. He prefers having a bet on the horses.
OS.

He did a bit of sub contract driving for my old business around about 2000. He'd fallen out with the PFA and the FA over some compensation, great bloke really a pleasure to work with. Still very passionate about the area but I think shied away from any reunions with old players. Obviously from my user name I was not around to see him play but have since watched videos and thought of how good a player he was.

Just one of the most underrated footballers ever in my opinion. Made Bobby Moore look hurried in possession and ineffectual when it mattered. A sublime intelligent footballer, who we should make more of.

Bluto was a top defender. I was only a young lad but I have nothing but fond memories of the bloke. Kind of sad that he doesnt gedt involved wheras Jackie (Marsh) seems to be quite happy to

Glad to hear Bluto is doing ok, vastly under-rated player. Would probably had a cap or 2 if he'd been at a more fashionable club. Same story with Alan Dodd too. Wonder what he's up to these days.

Smithy said that Bluto went the cup final and it was his first game for about 20 years.

I wouldn't say that to Bluto's face mate! You'll get what Chris Garland got!

I saw him at the longton/wood lane premier league match on saturday, he looks as fit now as hr did when he was playing, he did go to the cup final, he was telling me he hated training but he could have played twice a week for ever, even on those glue pot surfaces of the 60's and 70's. Alan bloor top top player

His son Jason was/is a good squash player. I don't think I have ever seen anyone hit a squash ball harder.

hes quite a reserved character (not a bad thing) when i used to see him where I used to work and one of his main gripes with the club was how the players had to pay for any reunions etc and im pretty sure he said they dont get free tickets anymore.

Bluto and his contemporaries rarely seem to whinge about how well rewarded players today are - tending to accept that that's just the way it goes. All credit, tho' I think I might be less charitable.
As others suggest here, he was a very good and (I suspect beyond SCFC) often underrated player. I do not recollect him being anywhere near even a sniff of a cap - unlike Denis Smith, who was (I think) part of that monster "squad" of about 80 that Don Revie (?) once assembled. When you consider some of the numpties who have graced England's back 4 in recent years....
Different times, I guess, and for all I know there were "shenanigans" that were simply under the radar, but somehow I find it difficult to imagine players like Bluto being tempted to engage in intimate relations with their in-laws, or bowling up at training with a gun and shooting students on work experience.

Alan was indeed a useful player; scored the odd goal too. My favourite memory of him was an article involving him in the souvenir magazine before the League Cup Final of '72. When asked "Favourite food?", Alan answered "Chip butty"..................those were the days; footballers lived like the man on the terrace.
