How many of you are thinking of retiring abroad?
We have looked at many countries but finally came up with Turkey,we bought two properties seven years ago.For peanuts really.
The bankrate is 7.75% interest on savings but was 23% only 4 years ago.
Many brits moved there and just lived off bank interest comfortably, now the rate has fallen its caught some out.
Biggest negative is you cant legally work there.
Rent and rates are absolutely brilliant. With a years council rates at £50.
property available from around £25,000 for a two bed apartment currently or rent £100 a month.
Anyone got views on retiring abroad to other countries.

The way fuel is rising in price I can't see much future in buying properties abroad. In the next 10 years air fares will simply become too expensive to be flying across Europe every couple of months....unless of course you are very wealthy. I'd get extremely bored doing bugger all eg..lying on a beach ....watering plants ...and errrr...............?
Nahh...Not for me...I'll still be out looking for roadkill 'victims' with my two dogs and shitty Lada with no personalised number plates .
Posing and poncing round cafes and hotels is not my idea of pleasure. I'd rather be smokin' me woodbines , farting , mending me fishing reels , and mowing the lawn. Ilda wouldn't go anyway .....No Bingo.
I'm not being negative just realistic .

I see your point Mumf takes all sorts.
Me i prefer the hot weather and the relaxed lifestyle, there is very little you cant do there that you can in old blighty.
i would miss my familiy and obviously SCFC but would watch all thge games and come back for a few weeks every winter.,
Wouldnt be lots of flights backwards and forwards as i would live there.
Good point on fuel mind its dearer in turkey than the Uk.Heavily taxed.
There is a national park on our doorstep so all the fishing walking etc you could shake a stick at.
Who knows where the next hotspot will be in 10 years, armenia i reckon lol.

Biggest negative is you cant legally work there. you might get lucky and have Turkey join the EU, in which case you'd be able to work there quite happily. ;D

Im retiring to the UK! Healthcare is your single largest concern when you get to pre-retirement age and sadly the US has yet to do anything about it. Must admit I do like those HouseHunter shows where people emigrate to the middle of nowhere,, but wtf do they do once the novelty has worn off?

I will see out my days with my feet up in Santorini, looking out over the caldera, drinking wine and watching the greek women sunbathe naked beside me.
Fact.
