is this new immigration law a step in the right direction?

Basically, they're gonna deport any failed asylum seeker. Are we seeing a return to forced repatriation?

They're saying the law might be copied in other countries too.

Maybe I am missing the point here but I thought that if you failed in your attempt to gain asylum then you were booted out. Seems reasonable to me.

What's the problem with that? You fail in attempt to seek asylum and you become an illegal immigrant by staying there.

What about their latest stance on cocaine...allowing people to walk free if they're caught at Schiphol airport with small quantities...anything under 3KG!!!!

yeah things are going a little weird here at the moment.

One hand they have this Maggie thatcher like figure who is literally throwing people out of the country even if they have been here 20 years.

Then because the prisons are so full, you won't get done at the airport for carrying a small amount of drugs- although most people would agree that 3kg of cocaine is only considered small if you are Scarface.

Plus from next year they are imposing the anti-smoking law in public places like the Irish are doing. Nobody knows exactly how this is going to affect the coffee shops and whether they will get an exemption.

In another freaky law they have also just banned street prostitution. If you want to be a whore in Amsterdam you HAVE to have red light and your own bed. So brothels are ok, just not outside on the street.

How they come up with them I don't know! It seems they have created a new form of politics: liberal-conservatism or something!
