Well done to 'The Office'. It has won the Golden Globe Award in the USA as the best comedy show... the first 'foreign' comedy ever to win the award... beating all of the homegrown mega competition (Will & Grace, Sex and the City, etc...)! Congratulations also to Ricky Gervais who won best comedy actor for his David Brent character, beating hot favourite Matt Le Blanc (Joey from Friends) to the award. Gervais is also the first Brit ever to win the Golden Globe in this category. The Office is one of the greatest comedy creations of all time and anyone who thinks that Americans just don't get this kind of subtle and observed humour couldn't have been more wrong. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/3423649.stmHurrah! The Office is amongst the greatest comedies of all time and Brent is the best comic character since Basil Fawlty.
Its success is largely due to the quality of the writing combined with the fact that the actors are actually very good actors who empathise with their characters.
Well done Ricky. Twitching his tie amongst the megastars!

yay,
at last we have a british comedy to boast about to the yanks and they probably will not understand the office because i believe ALL americans are stupid ;D
i really hope they do not do an american remake, they will make it just like frasier and whoever takes on brents role is just going to be inferior.
3 cheers for brent (wanker)

There is definitely going to be a remake and they've now, apparently, chosen the actor they want to play the part of Brent. Follow link for details... www.chortle.co.uk/news/jan04/usbrent.htmlSome of my American friends say he will actually do the part justice if the writing is up to scratch! Smudge

Thats good that they are picking a relative unknown to do it.
I didn't think The Office would appeal to Americans but fortunately it does! Reminds me of John Cleese saying the Monty Pythons decided the show would never work in America but then found out that On The Buses was the most popular show in Hungary! Anythings possible!!

More importantly, how fit did Lucy Davis look last night? If you're a fan of this young lady, make sure you get a copy of the Daily Express today. Very nice

'and anyone who thinks that Americans just don't get this kind of subtle and observed humour couldn't have been more wrong. ' LMAO It was far too complex for those Spam morons. The reason they got the award was because the Yanks knew we thought it was funny but it baffled them so they thought they better give it a couple of awards and try and make american humour a bit more sophisticated instead of the Charlie Chaplin Banana laugh humour they currently posess!! The fact that they are already are in negotiaitions to make an American Office has nothing to do with it I suppose??

Smudge, You are quite right when you said that The Office is the "greatest comedy creations of all time". It is quite superb. Great news that both The Office and Ricky Gervais have been given these Golden Globes.
