UFO in Newport (Wales) about 5 years ago was a cracking gig! Pokey venue but the band were awesome! I worked out that some of the people there hadn't been born when I first saw them!
(Queen live at Elland Road were awesome also!)
Worst, most boring gigs have got to be MSG in Birmingham in 1980 or Manic Street Preachers in Cardif about 3 years ago.

seen some really good bands,Scorpions,AC/DC,Sabbath,etc etc it would be difficult to say which was the best ,but the worst was the human league at bingley hall in 1981,they were absolutely dreadful,i would doubt that there has ever been a worst concert anywhere.
rower
best solo artist would be John Otway...pure entertainment

Worst...
Aha at the NEC, dragged along with my sister and her mates, very sad.
Then Jericho at the Viccy Hall, why?
David Cassidy at Trentham Gardens, words fail me.
Oddly enough I pretty much turned my back on live music after these early disasters so haven't got many 'Bests'. Spectrum at Leek Road probably the only one worth mentioning.

The last time anyone asked this question on the Oatie I was pleased to confess that, despite being fucking ancient, I'd never seen a better show than the White Stripes in 2001.
I'm even happier to say that this has now been kicked firmly into touch by Public Enemy at All Tomorrow's Parties in 2003. Fucking hell fire.
Worst? I remember going to see Ride supported by 'The' Verve at the Vicky Hall in about 1990. Jesus. Grown men gouged their own fucking eyes out with boredom.

It has to be "el Moz" on his 1999 "I've got no record deal" tour at Rock City in Nottingham. The place was PACKED with middle aged skinheads fighting eachother to get closer to Morrissey! Bizarre but utterly brilliant all the same. The worst has got to be "Mansun" when they played the Sugarmill just before they split up. They played all unreleased material, and good God it was shocking. They looked and sounded like a band on their last legs and the only high point was when they played "Take it easy chicken" as the final song. It was like someone had thrown a grenade into a mortuary as bodies that had had not moved for an hour and a half suddenly flew everywhere in joy/relief.

The worst is easy - went along with the wife to see Chris De Burgh at Bingley, 85/86, absolutely dire.
Best? Could be Bowie in 78 at Bingley, Ramones in 77 at Vicky, Specials/Madness/Selecter in 1980 at the Vicky, any of the numerous Jam/Smiths/Costello gigs I've seen.
But I'm going to plump for Dexys at Ritzys in 1980, before any hits. Awesome.

mmm, tough one. Best - Iron Maiden, Vic Hall - 1984. First gig ever - blew me away. Saw 'em last year for the first time in 13 years - as good as ever. Next - Big Country, Vic Hall - 1986 - hottest day of the year, bunked afternoon off 6th form, got Stuart Adamson's (RIP) autograph - swear to God it was over-sold - they were carrying bodies out. Ditto Georgia Satellites, Mcr Inter'l 2 - 1989. July 4th, band and crowd pi$$ed as hell - boogying like there was no July 5th. Worst - Probably some support band so bad I can't remember. RPLA - supported Little Angels once possibly.

JR! I was one of that 20! Lots of people find it hard to believe that U2 played at the Kings, but it was a great venue. Also saw Dexys and ABC there in the early 80s. Shame it never got more use after then. U2 were ok, before they started quoting the Bible on horseback etc.

Right then start off with the shite.
Worst:
Without a doubt Duran Duran sometime 2001 (I think) at the Manchester Apollo. Fooking shite decided to wow the crowd with there new material, suffice to say no fooker had heard any of it! Utter Shite!
Best:
U2 at Slane Castle 2002 there first gig back in Ireland in about 15 years (or summat like that) full of pissed up paddy's. Great day. Made even better as ColdPlay and Red Hot Chilli's were support!!!
Metallica Earl Court December 2003! I've seen Metallica numerous times but they were fantastic this night played near enough a 'greatest hits' set. Bloody brill!
Pantera supporting Megadeth at there height after the release of Vulgar Display of Power (before to many drugs) sometime around '91 completely blew Megadeth off the stage. Pure energy and aggression fantastic!
Seen loads of others but none really spring to mind so couldn't of been that amazing!

There's a fella owns a record shop in C-rewe who I remember was also there Glenn. I think the Comsat Angels supported U2 that night. They were a great raw band in those days.
Was only a wee fella at the time

Independence Day.........got it on picture disc somewhere.
Also saw U2 a couple of months later when a band called The Toilets supported them who later became The Alarm. Think that was in Ireland, can't remember.

A few highlights:
Nirvana - Sheffield Leadmill '92 The Jesus Lizard - Manchester Boardwalk '93 Public Enemy - Reading Festival '92 Plastikman - Tribal Gathering '94 Moz - Wembley Arena/Viccy Hall '91 Pixies - Viccy Hall '91 Sparklehorse - Manchester Uni '03 Har Mar Superstar (support) - Sugarmill '03
+ a few others, but these stand out.
A few bad trips too, but luckily I have forgotten most of them - except the most recent - went to see The Music @ the Sugarmill a year or so ago, before Radio 1 decided to champion their cause, God they were shite - I left halfway through, which is something I dont normally like to do.

I'm even happier to say that this has now been kicked firmly into touch by Public Enemy at All Tomorrow's Parties in 2003. Fucking hell fire. That gig did indeed kick ass, though may have been slightly bettered by Aphex Twin's appeance at the Saturday night. Worst gig ever, the Kinks at Glastonbury in 1994(?), terrible kareoke style banging out the hits. Most disappointing gig ever. Closely followed by local Dublin band Estelle, truely the least talented bunch I've ever seen.

Best band would have to be a small punk band called alkaline trio. Worst must be stereophonics, can't stand the b*ggers

Forgive me for reviving a dying topic, but I almost forgot to add Magnum to the list (of Best bands). I always got the impression the Brummie Rockers had a soft-spot for Hanley Vic Hall and vice-versa - playing there in the lean years and in between tours. Somehow the real majesty of some of their songs only came through in a live gig. I'm using words like "majesty" in a music post now. I'm going for a lie down....

Coo 'eck...worst?! Hmmm... I remember goin' to Gatecrasher Summer Sound System to see Faithless & Chemical Brothers a few years ago an' right after Faithless' set (which was rather FAB!), who should walk on, but none other than Craaaaaaaaiiiiiiiig David! My, how I chuckled as the audience quite literally "walked away" to go watch Chemicals "mash up the area" (hey kids, modern talk) in another tent straight after...in that respect, I didn't ACTUALLY see him "play(?)"... That's Karma, that, " Davis " you tw... Best?! Blimey O' Reilly... Leftfield November 2000 a few months before they split... Oasis Maine Road when I was a college kidda... Verve Haigh Hall (strange 'cos the music wasn't splendid as such, but just the "crack" of the whole day...) Big Beach Boutique on Brighton Beach - the first for the music and the second for the magnitude of the event... ...so many many more that I just can't remember at the mo' 'cos I'm at work and my head is full of transport management matters... edit:- oooh aye, Paul Van Dyk crackin' open "For An Angel" at 5am ....coo... what a bloody night.. ;D

Best saw live was easy....The Alarm and not just cos I am from wales. They had so much energy and the lead singer Mike Peters still performs today with a great band icluding ex sisters of mercy/Mission/gene loves jezebel and stiff little fingers members...and they rock. Go to www.thealarm.com to hear new single 45 rpm. Worst band ....Waysted ...which was ex UFO guitarist Pete Ways band.
