I don't know about the rest of you lot, but I always had Bolton as local rivals during this period in our history.
One of my first away games was in the October when we took 1000's up to Burnden Park. The Police opened up 1 turnstile and it chucked it down all the way but we didn't care when Gareth Evans crashed in a second half header to win it. Then TJ climbed the floodlights to sing Delilah. Superb.
Compare this to the return game when we went 2-0 up only for Bolton to pull back 2 late goals. I was sick as fook.
Good times - almost.

Gareth Evans scored the first Stoke City goal I ever saw, in a Rumbelow's Cup match against West Ham at the Vic that season. True story

Gareth Evans scored the first Stoke City goal I ever saw, in a Rumbelow's Cup match against West Ham at the Vic that season. True story Yep we lost 2-1 despite Evans giving us the lead. Had unluckily lost the first leg 3-0 despite playing well. Macari was their manager. Was at Burnden- great header by Evans.

Still remember that one, what a header.
And it pissed down on that open end with half a supermarket built on it, for the whole first half, one of the few times "Alan Balls red and white army" was sang and meant.
Great day.

I always thought they should have a local rule to allow "wall passes" off the supermarket.
