After watching the West Brom game and West ham game its obvious we have just added a extra pass or two at fullback before we hoof it.
End result is the defending team is in position when its hoofed.
When it was wilko and Higgy who got the ball we just hoofed it immedaitely. Not pretty but it caught the defending side out.
Lets get back to basics Pulis

We rarely pass the ball through the channels. I don't even know why we bother having a midfield. Just play 6-0-4 it would probably more effective, let the opposition tappy it around midfield and then swamp them in defence and hoof it to our 4 forwards. The thing people are forgetting about our current malaise (whilst concentrating on style) is that our defending has become laughable.
Full back problems are long documented but I'm afraid to say that neither of our centre halves is quite as good as we think they are

I agree, we're trying to play through our full backs, whenever Bego gets the balls he's looking to throw it to wilson or pugh, they then get closed down and rush their pass, be it a long one or short one, which is inviting pressure on us, i think we'd be better off going back to having Bego launch it long until we have better full backs/midfield players.
I'm all for evolving into more of a passing team, but not until we have the players to achieve it, at the moment its like trying to paint with a sledge hammer instead of a brush.

I can see what Pulis is trying to do, he's trying to get the full backs to link up with the wide men, but it's failing miserably, we do not have any full backs at the club to play like this.
Lots of people in the media seem to be blaming our poor form on Pulis "going back to ugly long ball football" (charlie nicolas), but it's actually the opposite, since starting with Pugh and Wilson we've been trying to play it out from the full back positions, it's time to go back to basics, get either Kenwyne or Carew to play in the withdrawn role and stick ric up front, and if we must start with Jon Walters make sure he drops on the oppositions full backs and aim long balls to him and use him like bolton use kevin davies.

Amazingly, we got a 78.9% pass rate, at the week-end, the first time in the PL I can ever remember such a thing. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/cj7bsBj2jOTuEAUVaPt5.gif) At least the players can understand our misery, Ryan saying that, "we're on a dip in form, but I'm sure we'll come back strong. But I cant think of anyone who's played that well, this season." !?!?!? Has he told TP that? Or wondered why, to him?

Let's just get back to our strengths which is defend well then get the ball forward and have players in the final third who can hurt teams .i.e. Ric, Ethers and Jermaine. Once we are safe we can start experimenting again and hopefully in the summer invest in two specialist full backs and a midfield player who can link the play , if the current play continues we may well find that we are sucked into a battle to survive which would be a disaster if we lost it

Serps, did you see the WBA game? It really was total hoofball.

The problem is that when either of our new full-backs get the ball, they either panic and lump it to nowhere and simply panic and play the ball back to Begovic who has to lump it even more aimlessly than either Ryan or Huth would do.
Just go back to playing the way we do, which was looking to be a nice mix of flair and steel, and all will be well with the Stoke City ship again.

Serps, did you see the WBA game? It really was total hoofball. The opening post is spot on imo. We need to hoof it sooner and cut out the unnecessary passes to full backs that do nowt.

Serps, did you see the WBA game? It really was total hoofball. Pugh, Wilson and Begovic were certainly passing it around to each other far more than normal, prior to the inevitable hoof. My lad said at the time, it was the manager's way of attempting to increase our pass completion rate! ;D

Serps, did you see the WBA game? It really was total hoofball. I did see it, and Bego has obviously been told to throw it out to wilson or Pugh as opposed to kicking it straight to our forwards forehead for flick ons. It's admirable that TP is attempting to change/modify, but he does not have the tools to do it yet, there's no way we're good enough to play it out from the back, even with supposed ball players like wilson and pugh at full back, we're just putting undue pressure on ourselves, players are panicking in possession, teams are playing us at our own game (closing down forcing errors).
