and it's a big if, because I don't think we will, would Coates stay loyal to Pulis? I was just having a look around at current unemployed managers and with the money Coates is splashing around, I'm sure there would be a fair few high profile candidates who would be interested. I'm not saying I want Pulis to be sacked though just to make that clear, I was just having a look around! www.leaguemanagers.com/manager/movers.html

At the start of the season, not making the play offs was not necessarily a sacking offence. From the position we're in and the money we've spent, it's a fucking hanging offence now.

Bob
I wonder whats going through Mr Pulis's mind just now. If we should fall short of the play-offs, though unlikely, will he stay.
Would he want to stay when for most of this campain we have commanded a top placing. He might look upon failure to get promotion now, a time to move on??
Any thoughts on this. I sincerely hope we do it this season for alls sake, so much hope would be wiped away in the space of 90 minutes. What a thought.

I think as Pulis has publicly stated he thinks we will get promoted this season, anything other than that will be for us and him a huge disapointment. I don't think he would walk away from it but I do get the feeling it is at least playoffs or bust for him. If we failed to finish in even the top 6, I feel that with the money he has been given by Coates to get promoted automatically and Coates' expectations of the playoffs it would be curtains for TP.
I know Pulis is Coates' man but if he doesn't meet expectations then I'm afraid he has failed, and this time round I get the feeling Coates wants the best for the club not for himself.

With the money that we've spent, missing out on the play offs should mean instant dismissal and a public stoning.
Under any other manager, having to settle for the play offs but failing to get promotion would merit another crack at it the following season. However, here we have a manager who refuses to admit that he ever makes a mistake, so he would inevitably fuck things up in exactly the same way should he remain in charge next season.
Therefore the only way I could live with Pulis remaining in charge is if he takes us up, either through the play offs, or by the increasingly unlikely scenario of automatic promotion.

I think it'd be a 'mutual consent' job if we didn't make the play-offs.
He'd be out of the building by June.
A play-off failure would present Coates with an interesting decision to make.
It'd be interesting to know just how he's feeling about what's happening.

At the start of the season, someone asked about Pulis on the old board. I said then, that if Pulis did'nt get us to the play offs at least, he should go. I still stick with what I said then.

Staffsoatcake: I was of the same view, he has had a good stint (with both spells) at the club and before he spent all this money, it was play-offs or bust for Tony, now I would agree with that, but also if we didn't go up, maybe it would be time for a change?

I, too, said that if TP didnt get us to the play-offs, he should go. But that was before seeing what a pathetic league it is, right now, and without knowing how much money he would be given to spend.
Either of those things would change my mind and with both being relevant, I'd expect him to do the honourable thing. But he wouldn't.

the real worry is if we don't go up this year is whether the purse strings slam shut regardless of who the manager is.
