Following on from recent confirmations that ID cards were not required in any way shape or form for either the Norwich or Charlton games, plus the fact that I haven't used my own ID card all seaon apart from Brazil (play various childish games like using the wifes or nephews), I had another cracker yesterday.
I have a friend (in his 50's) from Chesterfield and I invited him to the game yesterday. When I got our tickets the guest list was full, but I got one anyway on the basis that checks this season have been lax at best.
On approaching the turnstiles, I gave my friend MY ID card, showed him what to do (cover the picture with his ticket) and in he went. No problem at all.
I, on the other hand, had to hold back a little, because two of our group were lagging behind and I had their tickets. Having handed them over, I approached the steward cauldron, and was asked for my ID card.
My response, "I don't own an ID card mate, I just support Stoke home and away and it hasn't been a problem this season".
Unbelievably, the steward just nodded and let me progress to the turnstiles.
I don't drink (not on matchdays anyway) as I am always the driver, so I was obviously not loud or drunk. I was polite and unaggressive but no questions were asked anyway.
It is quite farcical really. We either need this damned piece of plastic or we don't!

I put something in the bin yesterday and walked straight in.
It is always a fun little game- or using someone else's ID card. Ah, the joys of ID cards!

going back a bit but my sister forgot hers for the QPR game & i was panicking that she would not get in (if she didn't i would not leave her behind)& went to the stewards & actually explained that she had forgotten it. the stewards said "no probs, you don't look like trouble makers anyway"
My dad always says " if your polite & hold you hands up you may probably getaway with it"
I've seen him do it with the police!! why on earth people argue with then is beyond me, the last thing they want is paperwork, but if your a mouthy sod , they Will do all they can t f*** you.
good on them.

My mate left his ID card on the coach before the QPR game. By the time he realised and we'd gone back to where the coaches had dropped us off they had gone.
He was absolutely shitting himself that he wouldn't get in after paying all that money to stay down in London for the weekend for a game we could have all watched at home or in the pub for next to bugger all. However when we got to the stewards we just explained calmly what had happened and they just let him through, no hassle!
I think it's just the luck of the draw with which steward you ask. And probably how you look too. If you're wearing Stone Island with a baseball cap etc and look like you've been drinking then you've probably got less chance!

I forgot my ID too on Saturday. Being female and having my 7 year old daughter with me I thought I would have no problems. I approached a fat Stoke steward who was extremely unsympathetic, telling me my daughter and partner could enter the ground but I couldn't!! Fortunately the head Stoke steward had a little more compassion and allowed me in, thank goodness. The head steward informed me that they were getting really strict, due to allegedly bad press in the oatcake!!!!
