What an excellent session, hopefully we'll bowl the Hussey-less Aussies out shortly after tea and put on a few runs ourselves before the close of play. England know that they're only 3-4 days away from retaining the Ashes if they win the majority of the sessions in this game, that's all the motivation they need.

A great session. Off to bed now so that I can be up early for the game.

Can't believe how shaky the Aussie batters have been this series. A shadow of previous sides with Gilchrist, Warne and the likes.

Can't believe how shaky the Aussie batters have been this series. A shadow of previous sides with Gilchrist, Warne and the likes. Agreed. It isn't a great top 7, especially if you compare it to the 2001 Aussie side that had Hayden, Langer, Ponting, M Waugh, S Waugh, Martyn and Gilchrist as a top 7!!! The current Aussie 7 have some good players in there but I'm not convinced by a few of them. Watson has yet to convince me he's a Test opener, he gets consistent scores but i'm still not sure he has the mental capacity to be a Test opener and Hughes has probably the worst technique i've seen from a Test opener, it really is bizarre, no wonder they're trying to fast-track Katich back for the Sydney match

It serves the Aussies right in my opinion, picking a guy not in form. Before he got picked at Perth, Hughes had a Sheffield Shield average of 18 this season or something like that while someone like Shaun Marsh has been in much better form than Hughes averaging nearly 60

Good delivery again from Jimmy, poor shot though, 66-5. Bowling brilliantly today is Jimmy

77-7. Another poor shot from an Aussie today. Really good line and length bowling from England today, very disciplined

And that is that, 98 all out, 4 each for Twiggy and Jimmy and 2 for Brez. A fantastic, disciplined bowling display from the boys today now it's our batsmen's turn. The Aussies have shown specifically how NOT to bat on this surface, very loose. We've got to be careful and leave the ball well and try to get past the new ball without too much damage, i.e. maximum of 1 down

England now 52/0 - over half way there already. Obviously, anything can still happen, but we should be looking to gain an insurmountable lead this innings.
GOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ENGLAND! ;D

What a great day. Gutted went asleep at two. England need to bar the next two days and it's in the bag.
Both cook and Strauss looking good 109 for no wicket

I've seen opening days where England have ended up 180 for 1 or 2 due to rain
To have this plus 10 Aussie wickets is brilliant

Fantastic day from England. A fully professional, disciplined bowling display from the lads and the batsmen have done their job so far as well. 98 all out and 157-0 at close of play with Cook on 80 and Strauss on 64. Great stuff lads.
