I was just thinking with the signing of Pearson, about all the great Scottish players over the years, Dalglish, Souness, Bremner etc., why Stoke have had so few good Scottish players. I can only think of Mudie, Kinnell and Jimmy Robertson, who I would rate.

Interestingly the Liverpool teams of the 70's had very influental Scottish players and indeed a big non English flavour:
Welsh- Toshack Rush
Irish- Whelan
Scots: Dalglish Souness Hansen
English: Keegan Lee Neal Thompson Hughes
Australian: Johnstone
Zimbabwean: Grobbelaar
Aussies and Zimbabwean players were a real rarity at that time. Ipswich havin 2 Dutch players in Thijssen and Muhren was also frowned upon. Great players though.

John Clark I'll always remember trudging out of Oakwell after our 3-0 defeat in 1993-94, and Jamo_on_the_wing uttering the immortal words... ..."at least Clark looks a decent player". ;D

LDE I don't think even Clark looked in the mirror and said that to himself!!! ;D
He was wank beyond wank and my most disliked player of that era!

Lawrie Leslie won 5 caps for Scotland while playing for Aidrieonians in 60-61 before coming to Stoke via West Ham in 63.

Sov,
Clark was a lumbering oaf who could've easily been mistaken for Pat Butcher, had it not been for the fact that she was ten times the footballer.

Sammy Irvine was born in Glasgow mikeyc are you thinking of Bobby Irvine who was born in N. Ireland. He played a few times for N. Ireland. Incidently he was made captain for us in a game v Burnley who were then captained by his more famous brother Willie Irvine. Unfortunately he was largely responsible for our defeat against 3rd div Walsall at home in 3rd round of FA cup in 64-65 season and Waddo never picked him again. Did anybody see that defeat? Didn't the ref allow a goal that went in through a hole in side netting at Stoke End? Walsall won 2-0 including pen given away by Irvine.
