I'd take a point if on offer right now. They will be well up for it after last weekend's embarrassing capitulation. I can see Bruce playing Gyan from the start and really going for it. It will be important we hold firm and keep a clean sheet for the first 30 minutes, quieten the crowd and frustrate them and stall their momentum.
Pulis has a bit of player juggling to do with an eminently winnable Brum home game in three days, then a biggie v the Scousers next Sat'dee. He is likely to hold back JP, Fuller and Rory to make sure they are fully fit for the home games and may even bring in Higgy to try to solidify the back four. It is a game made for him to recall Salif if it wasn't for his calf injury!! ;D

Just score one more than the mackems please Stoke.......i really, really want maximum points today! Given the clubs are so evenly matched, it may just come down to who wants it more on the pitch. Will you want to end your losing run more than we'll want to exorcise Derby-day humiliation? Will be an interesting contest.

captain i think a draw then we are all winners No way will our fans accept a draw today. We get a draw, even with a decent performance, and the team will be booed off. No reflection on Stoke, of course, but the fallout from the derby humiliation will mean 35,000 Sunderland fans will be entering the match furious and wanting to vent. An early goal for you and the atmosphere will turn poisonous. An early goal for us and the atmosphere will go to the other extreme. Going to be a strange day at the SoL today.

Do you think it'll go to the other extreme if you do get something? I can recall us playing Plymouth in our promotion season and after Plymouth scored, the atmosphere really turned, with all four stands (including the gleeful ''we're not boring anymore, we're just in league one" Plymouth fans) chanting for Pulis' head. We won the game, but things hardly improved, I seem to remember there being absolutely no reaction to the full-time whistle, just people getting up and leaving.

In the wider picture, I don't think a win today will have any great psycological effect on our season. I think from our point of view the focus will be entirely on this game almost as if it was a cup final. Their one and only chance of instant redemption and chance to bury last week. Failure to do so, and the derby game may hang over their heads until January at least when we play them again. However if we get a win it will only exorcise a few ghosts and nothing long term will really change, which is good because I think we are all very happy with the wider position of the club right now. Expect a large outpouring of pent-up emotion from our fans today though, one way or another.

i've got a feeling it'll be a 0-0 bore draw.
we're playing well, there's talk of a sunderland backlash. 0-0 it is.
that might be just because of last year though. ;D

I've got a very good feeling about today
we might run 3 or 4 goals in today against a very shaky Sunderland
I'll go for a 1:3 away win

i love how people aren't allowed to change their opinions based on form and recent games.
before man utd i wouldn't have picked tunny to start but after the last 3 games he's deserved his place and he should keep it.
shock fucking horror i changed my mind based on performance.
everytime he gets a chance i say he needs to show us what he can do and do it consistently and at the moment he's doing it.

Sorro Ruth BIG-faye Shawsy Collo Jimmy Deano Rory Ringtone Kenny Disney I think he'll make a few changes ... We were a bit robbed not to get a point out of the last two games, but even so ... And we are away ... AND Blunderland will be looking for some revenge ... So I reckon Tunk will be back on the bench. I also think Wilse will be benched for this one ... It's just the kind of mad thing TP does ... And I do think we missed Rory's throw against the Toffees ... I can't see BIG-Faye carrying the can for the Yak's goal though ... But if he does it will be Wilko for him As for the result - We really need 3, but you can have me arm off right now for 1. Goooooarnnnnn stoke

This has got to be the team: Sorensen
Wilkinson Huth Shawcross Collins
Pennant Wilson Whitehead Etherington
Tuncay
K.Jones But, I think Faye will come in for Wilko (Huth at right-back), Walters will play instead of Pennant or Tuncay & Delap will play instead of Wilson

Gutted i can't be there today and it will be strange for me watching a stream{hopefully} because i very rarely miss a game but i believe a performance on a par with last weeks at Everton will see us get something and we really do need it to stop the rot imo. Also i believe the 1st goal is massive in today's game as well.

Also i believe the 1st goal is massive in today's game as well. Yeah, if we can grab the first, their crowd will be at em like a fat bloke at a buffet Goes the other way though ... Like the Captain put above (or over the page) if they score first, I think they'll be right behind em. Tough game for us ... We didn't need last week's result for them

If I was a Sunderland fan I would be asking why sign, for a load of money, someone who obviously cannot play with Bent as they are too similar. And sell Jones who could play with either? Lets hope they will still be asking this question at 5pm.
