That is the question. Plenty of watering holes if you go the scenic way. I don't think you will get in any pubs near to the ground tomorrow by going up the A38 and M1.

Thru Leek and head for Buxton, turn right at The Winking Man pub. On to Longnor and then over past the Cheddar Cheese (?) and down to Monyash via Crowdecote (sp) and then on to Bakewell, Baslow (stop for a pint) and then Sheffield. A doddle. And a cracking journey. And some of the best boozers in the land.

Via Buxton for me. Either way is similar timewise, but I prefer the drive over the top.

I'm going through Buxton, then up to Sparrowpit / Speedwell Cavern, through Hope then up past Ladybower onto the A57, then A6101 past Stannington up to the A61. Nice drive, but no beer for me!

HGV drivers tip for you, was delivering near the ground today and roads works on all roads leading north near the ground, i'd be tempted to come off M1 higher, Maybe even as high as junction 36 and just drop down the A61 for 10mins, May save you some time.
And yes i have seen the the so called traffic reminder on the the official site but i can say that as of 5pm today there was no temp traffic lights and all work was completed

Weather forecast for tomorrow is heavy rain so the views from Monyash - Over Haddon (Lathkill Dale) Bakewell , Ladybower etc etc will be a bit limited. Might get a decent sunset on the way back though!

Ever likely there was a crush at Hillsborough In poor taste, I was working at the game you are hinting at and had to carry dead bodies from the field

I remember it well
Arsenal had been given the Kop and we had Lepers Lane but they sent 10'000 tickets back and so the Kop was half-Stoke, half-Arsenal. We scored both our goals at the Lepers Lane End and me (i was 8) and my brother sat in the West Stand.
35.000 Stokies that day
Awesome!!
Great pictures Owlzat
Thanks for that!

And yes i have seen the the so called traffic reminder on the the official site but i can say that as of 5pm today there was no temp traffic lights and all work was completed If you come off at J36 you'll come across some temporary traffic lights after a few miles due to the road collapsing during the floods so there is only one lane in use. This is the way I recommend where there is no roadworks and plenty of pubs to call in on the way :- Come off M1 at J35 and take the first exit off the roundabout signposted Chapeltown, follow this road for about a mile and you'll come to a roundabout (Wagon pub on your right), go straight across and under a railway bridge on the A629 I believe (several pubs around here if you fancy a few jars), carry on this road taking the left fork off the next roundabout (KFC on right) passing pubs called Escape (right), Prince of Wales (right), The Wharncliffe (left), Crown & Cushion (left). You'll then come to The Acorn (right) on a crossroads where you turn left up a hill and then at the T Junction turn left onto the A61 which then takes you down to Hillsborough avoiding the aforementioned traffic lights. I can recommend The Crown & Cushion or The Acorn if you want to stop and have a pub meal and a few drinks and it's only 10 minutes from Hillsborough.
