It's okay dellilah, he's only supported Stoke since they came into the prem and his expectations are out the window, if you don't like what pulis does for the club then fuck off down the vale, else fucking live with it.

Explain isn't the same as justify and in this context I don't take it as a 'punishment' word either. It'd just be nice to know what is going on under the baseball cap sometimes, but yer man Pulis seems to be from the, 'never appologise, never explain' school. The general frustration comes from the manager dictating the rate of progress ('pushing on') at a level arguably slower than is currently achievable in most people's eyes, given the current playing staff.
TP doesn't see it as a race to the top, more a safe journey operating within his own limitations.
A burnt out football manager isn't going to last long I guess...

TP doesn't have to explain owt as far as I'm concerned. He's the boss and he's doing a bloody good job for us. He often makes me scratch my head (as he did when I got the team news in Searer's Bar) but nobody can question the results he gets and the amazing job he continues to do. He is a vital, vital part of this club and nobody will convince me otherwise. He is despite all of this though, still open to scrutiny. That doesn't mean these fans with questions are against him and people should realise this. I was amused to hear that Sunday's first half was "all part of the plan" according to some, even though TP's interview (and early substitutions) completely contradicted this opinion. The reason we are where we are is down to his fairly cautious approach, he has made us a very tough team to beat. Sometimes the philosophy can be taken to the extreme but the ends normally justify the means. Keep on doing what you're doing Tone (and I'll still have the odd scratch of my bonce! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif) ) Gooaarrrnnn Stoke!!!!

Stokie1000, TP has purchased 23 players since promotion, 12 of which may hardly play, certainly not for a return on fee's transfers, agents, signing on + wages. £23.5 mil transfers + 4 undisclosed and a free.

Or would you prefer us not to buy Jones, Pennant etc and persist with Soares and Tonge?

If he approaches the Bolton game in the same fashion, the game could be long gone before the oppositions penalty area becomes an ambition.
Pulis has proved himself to be an excellent manager but to actively seek to not put the opposition on the back foot for an hour as a tactic, has the possibility to be right up there with Richie Barker's by-passing of that excellent midfield of the early 80s in terms of both insanity and tragic waste of available talent.

Why does he have to explain? We're doing bloody well and to be frank, the best team doesn't always include the best 11 players, Fuller is one of our best players but is played from the bench, I also happen to believe that tuncay is one of our better individual players but he doesn't get played apart from League Cup matches. Do I have a problem with him selecting the best team that HE thinks will go out and get the win? No, because most of the time we do actually get points on board, at home or away, this then begs the question. How many of you do manage or do coach? Pretty slim numbers i'd have said. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/KYqg3pYeaerc5lD_P7BR.gif)

Why does he defend and praise Tuncay, and then leave him out from the team?
He could say he hates him and don't want him in the team, because that's a fact.

We have a problem at Stoke that Pulis seems to split fans. I dont mean Rimmers or PHWs i mean normal run of the mill fans. Some say results warrant what he does others say its all inspite of him. What i personally believe is maybe he should be meeting the supporters more or at least trying to put across in his programe notes or presss what he is trying to achieve and why. Most people will agree his tacticts and selections can confuse so why not explain to us . Some will say why should he ,i will say for the good of the club we need all the supporters behind him and the club anything that brings people onside the better. He doesn't need to explain anything to the fans imo because he continues to do a good job and pointless threads like these are just a complete waste of time.

I don't think TP has to justify or answer anything considering he has delivered above expectations as a manager. His objective was clear - get us into the Premiership, make sure we compete and evolve steadily.
His answer come in the form of results and consistent success.
However, I do agree that it would be great to have the opportunity to ask some of the questions straight to the coaching staff. Mainly those questions that the majority of fans debate on a regular basis.
An opportunity occasionally to ask "why" and receive an answer would allow us to get a better grasp of the bigger picture and be good for the club as a whole.
Personally I think TP is a magician and I have ultimate faith in his abilities as a manager but I would like to know the reasons why he makes some of the decision he does. Especially when some tactical calls and team selection seems so odd to many of us.
TP should only really have to explain to the fans if we are under performing but a couple of nagging questions answered occasionally would great. If only to spark some great debate based in fact rather than speculation.

I think they should have the website invite questions and a different high profile member of the club/team could post their carefully screened answers each week. Of course I also believe that in this (mis)information age, having too much info too quickly is part of the problem.

I remember going to the Brian Little meet the manager night many moons ago but it was a bit of a pointless exercise to be honest!
I don't know whether they still do them but it probably wouldn't be the best forum. Your suggestion of screened, general questions or an open spot on a site occasionally would be better.
However you are also right that in the modern age of PR and spin it would be easy for answers to be taken out of context.
Even a one off Q&A from the oatcake with the fans selecting their top ten questions for answer may work.
I wonder whether Homzy could set that up?

This place would be totally wank if everyone jizzed over Pulis or vice versa. I'm a massive Pulis fan, but even i know that he gets it wrong on many occasions, he's still a fantastic manager but that doesn't hide the fact that he is way too negative on occasions and he plays players like Walters and Diao ahead of damn good players who should start every week in their positions. None of them are idiots anyway, they just have a different opinion, and for the people who JUSTIFY it(as a lot do i think) then that's absolutely fine. It's just the guys who post comments like "Oh shit selection Pulis, you're wank", without elaborating.
