Maybe it's the curse of the armband but while Ryan's lost form, Abdy's picked up when plenty of us were ready to write him off.
Does anyone know for sure if he was carrying an injury all last season, or is there something off pitch that was messing with his head?
Whatever the reason it's great to see him back to near his best, one of the real good news stories so far this term.

His fannying around in dangerous areas still worries me.

Against West Ham he was but against Villa and Spurs I wasn't particularly comfortable with him for the reasons rob says above.

Abdy has ALWAYS fannied about in dangerous areas! The difference was, that in his first year he got away with it nine times out of ten, but last year, he wasn't fit enough to make it work. He is still, imo, the main man at centre half, and it's upto Ryan & Huthy to prove they are better (If Huthy gets the chance of course) It's great to see the big fella getting back to his intimidating best, just ask Parker (I Think) who jibbed on that 50/50 in the second half!

Still nowhere near as good as he was that first season, and I don't think he ever will be to be honest.
His farting around on the ball used to be great fun as you knew he'd get away with it and make the centre forward look stupid. Now you just want him to hoof it, as he always looks like he's going to tread on the ball or fall over or something.

He needs to be told in no uncertain terms to stop farting around with it and get rid. Any volunteers?

I wouldn't say he is back to his first season form, but i think we have seen an improvement compared to last season so far.

Abdy has ALWAYS fannied about in dangerous areas! I agree - and when he really is at his best, it doesn't worry you. I'm still fantasizing about putting him back in CM alongside Wilson, and then playing Ryan and Huth at the back. Don't know if his body can handle the rigors of the cage, but he's still got the game for it, and then we wouldn't have Huth out of position.

Am I one of of a couple of people that watched Faye actually turn his back against play and the oposition running towards him with the ball just outside our boz on Saturday then??? Hardly says class to committ school boy mistakes like that. That could have cost us the game.
I think he needs to be dropped for a bit and replaced by Huth in the middle to give him time to get his hunger for the game back.

Abdy has played a little better but for me Huth is by far the best CB at the club and he can't even get a game there.
His partner should be, in preference order....Shawcross, Higgy, Ab or Collins.
To be fair, it's not a bad problem to have.

Ultimately the centre backs should be Huth and Shawcy.

I think Abdy's general form has been excellent so far this season. He's been rock solid for the main part and has been our best defender (IMO). I agree that he takes far too many liberties in posession and I'm holding my breath at least three or four times a game. I'm afraid that's what you get with Abdy. He's an excellent defender at his best but he does take risks in posession. It's difficult to be too hard on a player who actually wants to 'play' his way rather than simply hoof the ball. I know you HAVE to hoof it at times but that doesn't come naturally to Abdy who has been a top footballer. Overall, I have been very pleased with his form.

isaid the very samething on saturday, and why are we jumping all over ryan? what about in the second half when we were attacking and lost the ball it was ryan who chased the west ham player all the way back to our box and pressured him into shooting wide.but then again if we arent picking on at least one player then were not stoke fans are we?

Because I've seen chinks in Faye's armour I now really dislike him fannying about with the ball rather than playing a simple pass. He was always going to get caught out one day doing that, but he still gets out of trouble more than he cocks it up.
I don't think he's played that badly, I'd give him 6.5/10 over the games I've seen him in. Room for improvement

General: Because they'd look like a bunch of ***** if they wanted Ryan dropped wouldn't they? But a bloke who's playing much better than Ryan at present, well yes that's ok.

He definately looks more composed but is still a bit inconsisent through 90 minutes. The improvement on every game is noticeable so I'd hope the Abdy i love is back to his former glory very soon

I feel exactly the same way although I wouldn't have use dthe word fantazied I work with a Bolton fan and he said that where Abdy always looked th emost comfortable. It was only at Newcastle that Alladyce played him at centre half more than midfield. With him in the cage and his control on the bal, calmness on the ball etc he would give us that player we are absolutely craving. No disrepct to Whitehead and co but they're tryers, and chasers. Abdy can tackle, can pass the ball to full-backs and wingers and would be ideal inside the middle with Wilson. It'll just never happen though....

I agree Ringo with the jist of what you say but just feel that Abdy would struggle with the pace of the game in that position at this stage of his career. He played that role (not for long) at Bolton some 5/6 years ago now.
