Sidibe frustrated by lean spell
Stoke forward Mama Sidibe has admitted he is frustrated at having scored only twice this season. The 28-year-old Mali international told BBC Radio Stoke: "As a striker you are judged by how many goals you score.
"You can work hard, but the goals are the most important thing. This is what is letting me down and it is not easy but I will keep trying.
"The manager wants me to play behind the striker looking after the midfield so it is not easy to score goals."
Sidibe has also said that he feels his place in the starting line-up may be under threat after the arrival of Jay Bothroyd on loan from Wolves.
"With a player like Bothroyd on the bench I sometimes fell less confident, but if the manager still wants me to be on the pitch then that is good. It's a strange feeling." Sidibe on the Beeb I know, the old Mama debate again. Personally, I think he is essential to our style- a style which is unlikely to change in the near future. A few more goals would be nice though

Me too, a vital cog in TP's machine. Anyway if he was a goal scorer he be playing in the Prem. Which he will be next season anyhow Be nice if he would score 3 or 4 goals before end of the season.

Hopefully the competion from Jay will maybe make Mama step up his game and he pulls off a few more shots. He sometimes seems scared to just fooking wallop the ball one, fuck aiming and a nice little tap in the lad should just stick his foot behind a few, they'l start going in if he believes they can.

Potter 84,surely if we get promoted then Mamma would be surplus to requirements, surely. I think he will stay - especially with 2 years to run on his contract & u have to give him a chance at that level. Parkin & Pericard would be surplus to requirements though, especially as they are not good for Championship level either.

I'd agree with Potter84. Bearing in mind he fairly recently signed a contract extension, TP must have agreed to this with the intention that during that period we would be in the top flight?! However, if we were in the Prem, he wouldn't be a frontline striker. Just an option off the bench for desperate times! There will be many times when we resort to 'hoofball' for the last ten minutes of matches...of course the other 80 minutes would be played on the immaculate bowling greens of pitches the top flight has to offer. As for Vince and the Beast. The Premiership, don't make me laugh!! ;D

I'm sure Mama will be part of the squad next year when we are in the Premier league bearing in mind he still has a couple of years on his contract. However I can't see him starting many games as surely we would be looking for better quality players during the summer. You'll be warming the bench at best next season Mama.

I dont see him starting every game but think the 1st few he will. Defo impact player if we need a goal.............for him to set up for Fuller or who ever we bring in then...in last 15-20 min of games.

I agree that we will be buying in a different class of store (think Marks & Spencer, and maybe the odd trip to Fortnum & Mason, instead of Asda, and occasionally Aldi, at present!) if we go up.
Mama, with the best will in the world, if we are to stand any chance of competing at that level, would have to be a squad player at best, a physical option off the bench to try to change a game.

massively underrated and for me a big part of the team, he allows fuller to go on with his business while defenders are trying to deal with mama.
Ive said it before and ill say it again he would not be playing for us if he could bang them in.

He's a very important player for us right now, but I just can't see us using him next season. The goalscoring side of his game is something that you just can't lack in The Premiership, even Heskey gets himself a fair few. Regardless, he links the play up and for whatever reason, even when he plays poorly, the ball manages to stick in the opposition half when he plays.
What was the difference between this season and last season? He's got 2 this season and got 7 last season, which is fairly prolific for him.

If TP uses Mama in that way then why dont we have a slight tinker with the way we line up ???
Maybe something along the lines of..
Nash Griff/Wilko Shawcross/Cort Riggot Dicko/Griff Lawrence Delap/Pugh Whelan Sidibe Bothroyd/Cresswell Fuller
I know people want the wingers but, in all honesty we dont have what you would call a 'proper' winger who has a look in at the moment, so, why not try a 4-3-1-2 formation that, if doesnt seem to be working can always work back to the 4-4-2 come 4-4-1-1 ???

"With a player like Bothroyd on the bench I sometimes fell less confident, but if the manager still wants me to be on the pitch then that is good. It's a strange feeling." If he's feeling the pressure with Bothroyd on the bench, whats he going to be like if Ameobi or Kamara sign!!

86 - I've said that before. The system is obviously one that has its benefits and I'd favour it. TP doesn't, though.

What a jerk he is, does he not understand the meaning of competition for places and how the hell can he feel less confident than he is now.
What a wanker the bloke is fuck him off.

It makes sense, especially at this time of the season where we have to 'go for it'. it also gives both Whelan and Lawrence a chance to play in their favoured positions aswell as, if needed, give them the chance to move out wide to find a position to either spread play and put a cross over or just pull the opposition defense out of position giving our strikers more room in and around the box. Plus it could give both our RB and LB the freedom to overlap on the wings and supply crosses.

desregarding his performances on the pitch,
from what i've seen of mama in interviews he really does seem to be a top bloke

[quote author=. "With a player like Bothroyd on the bench I sometimes fell less confident, but if the manager still wants me to be on the pitch then that is good. It's a strange feeling." [/color][/i] Sidibe on the Beeb Surely Mama should be full of confidence he's just scored goals in consecutive months ;D and that can't have happened too often during his career if you look at his stats ! Having said that the way Pulis likes the team to play with Sidibe sitting behind the main striker isn't going to help him score goals and if we continue with that system it's hard to see anyone in the current squad who could play the Mama role better.

Its about time we put this Mama role to bed once and for all, we wont be able to play like that in the prem so lets start as we mean to go on and hopefully if Ameobi signs i wont ever have to watch him 'play' again.
