Pericard
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just send him back to Stoke now, if we can. It'd be more use having one less attacking option and giving the other players slightly more in-depth training than having that useless lump hanging around.

Granted he wasn't great yesterday, but he's some way off full match fitness. I think he may be very useful in those vital last few games.

Maybe not best to judge him already. Remember Bennett, Viafara and others had very poor starts for us but came good eventually. Although I do agree that he was awful yesterday and last week at Hull.

I thought that for someone who has'nt played for a while that he did alright, he was'nt goig to set the world alight but he gave there defenders a few problems simply by being there. I'd always assumed he was quite small, shows how wrong you can be!!

If he was any good Stoke wouldn't have loaned him out would they ? Face facts, any loan players we get at this stage of the season aren't going to be world beaters.

my first impression of him in a saints shirt was not a good one. he has an awful first touch and his shooting is not great. when bwp came on yesterday he had something about him. i would try him and stern john up front at the moment.

I was very disappointed in him to be honest - Ok the tactics were not suited to two big blokes - you need wingers or people that can cross whereas we had Jhon and Mario who are both really better suited in the middle as neither has pace or a decent cross. Mario can thread a decent pass but thats not much use for 2 lumbering blokes is it?
In the first half we had 2 chances where we got on the wrong side of their defence and I was level both times and we were 55/45 better off but both times we didn't have the will to want it enough and that summed up Pericard's performance for me. I expected him to go out and bust a gut for us as we had given him a chance....I didn't see that from him. Early days and his arrival just may give the others a kick up the arse competition wise.

Havn't we learnt yet that researve football or bench warming is so off the pace of first team football that players take a while to get up to speed. His recent track record isn't great so this is his last chance, I will be surprised if he doesn't improve. Judge him after a couple more games.

Why is it Saints keep getting players that are NOT match fit or havent played?? I want to see players who are footballers end of story. There are probally 3000 players in the 90 clubs from the football leaque and we cant find one thats a 90 minute player.
We lose 4 games each time new half fit players come in as we wait for thier fitness or form to develop. What on earth do we we have the academy for? or does that take second place to agents.
Richard Wright looked decent enough to me and wont need a few weeks to sharpen up.

We do not have the luxury of unimportant games for him to find his fitness/touch in (if indeed he can, of which I am not too optimistic.)

Problem is that we really cant afford to play players who arent match fit at this stage of the season. Seems pretty pointless to give Pericard a few more games to regain match fitness when we might be relegated by then. John and BWP should start against Cardiff and Saganowski should be in the squad.

Did somebody just reprint the Alan Bennett debut v Palarse thread? Or was it the Andrew Davies Debut thread
Obviously for 90% of the posters on here he was cr&p because his name isn't Viafara
As bad as reading 5 months of Hammill is cr*p posts followed by a month of we need Hammill stuff
Van Persie is still cr*p at the moment for Arsenal he's only played a few games since a long lay off. Give the guy a chance FFS
If you WANT to be critical then criticise bringing in a player on loan who was not match fit but THEN give us a sensible alternatve who WAS available, Match Fit and who we could afford

Jesus 100 minutes of football and yet again there are muppets on here writing him off already. Personally I thought he looked a donkey but he got better as the game went on and he was a real handful for their two centre backs. If John had got closer to him he might have taken advantage of some of the poor headed clearances that can be attributed to Pericards pressure.

I don't think we have enough time/games left to play unfit players to give them match practice. Play the ones we already have on the books. Pericard didn't use the natural advantage of his height at all during the game. A total waste of the clubs money in my opinion.

It's because it's they are the only ones available - or stupid enough to come to a club in turmoil!
Oh yes it might have something to do with how much they cost!

seems a bit ironic when euell had a good game and everyone was calling to get rid of him (me included) lets at least give him a couple more games he looks short of match fitness

Well since none of the other available strikers (bar Stern John) have shown they have what it takes then it does make sense to bring Pericard in, he might take a couple of games to bed in but then the likes of BWP and Saga have had ALL season to bed in and haven't done the business.
Pericard is a big old brute of a CF and we need someone like that to pressurise defenders and assist at set pieces. He will improve with games, he scored quite a few goals when Pompey came up and think they got him from one of big Italian teams (Juventus? Inter?) so if he can come good he will be invaluable, if he only scores once and that goal wins us a game his signing will have been worth it... similarly if he only gets one match-winning assist or stops a goal from defending a set-piece...

But he's a loan player, here for just a few games. Why do you all put so much value on loan players? there's nothing in it for them. Stupid firkin system if you ask me, a season long loan starting in August is one thing, hiring various bits and bobs in desperation and just to appease the fans into thinking that you're in control of the situation is just a cosmetic illusion.I still think that if we'd BOUGHT and not borrowed players in the January window of our relegation season things could well have turned out otherwise.

How much time do we have? - and their bad form put is at the bottom of the CCC after a few games. After a good pre-season workout in the summer Pericard may prove a good league 1 striker. Not now.
Pericord should not play again this season.
Either McGoldrick, Saga or Baseya have more to offer the team. Pericard completely lacks ball skills, and he makes Rasiak look like a greyhound.
Laurie Mac accuses Lowe of selling off our best players. But just what did he and Crouch do in January?

I think they gave them away on a temporary basis because we couldn't afford to keep them and they didn't want to stay. There is no point whatsoever in trying to desperately hang on to players who don't want to play for you, are performing about 30 levels below their capabilities and who cost you a fortune in salary. It is known that we pissed Skacel off by playing him at left back, we showed him no respect in asking him continually to play defence or not at all and he walked away albeit temporarily (or not). You just cannot ask an international player to fill in every week, often to his own detriment, or not play at all.On the other hand Rasiak is just not worth worrying about nor is his compatriot Saga.Waste of money the pair of them.
