Ferdinand famed for missing drugs tests and porn videos is made england captain....what a reward and what a poor role model....He takes his place besides the likes of Booby Moore....further evidence of the demise of england team

John Terry of course, is a blinding role model for kids everywhere.

I am truly shocked at that. I thought Stevie G would get it

Nickey Shorey would have been a better choice Exactly

Why would stevie G get it?
Capello said he would rotate the captaincy in the friendlys so he can pick the right one for qualifiers.
Ferdinand wont lead the team out in the next game garrenteed

The captain of the team in my opinion should be Joe Cole.

At some stage it should be Rooney.

Anyone other than Joe Cole, Asheley Cole, Terry, Bridge, Lampard, Wright-Phillips or any of the other English contingent at Chelsea.
They can have a pop at it when they stop chasing referees half-way around a pitch every time he gives one of them off-side.
I also think Gerrard should actually have th eoccassional good game for England before they bestow the armband on him.

vestanpance,
It's a bit biased just say the Chelsea players do that, what about Man Utd players? Rooney is at it constantly, as is G.Neville and Ferdinand is only slightly better. In fact i would say all of the English players in the top 4 sides are as bad as each other. Lampard and Gerrard are slightly better but only slightly.

Fair comment Steve. Rooney is a belidgerent little arsehole.
It's just that Terry makes this grandiose speech in the papers bemoaning the treatment of referees, when he spends most of his working life chasing them like a welshman might a sheep.
You are right though, and as such i'd like to be the first to give you some karma.

can't ever forgive gerrard for that miss against russia that would have put the game to bed,
and the way he failed to lead us when captain against croatia,
rio is a cracking defender, i say give him a go!

Well its just the rotation thing so its the one and only time he will be captain. Rooney could be a good call for you but i would be amazed if anyone other then Terry leads you out in the 1st competitive game

Rio Ferdinand is an absolute joke choice for captain England . He is overated and has no leadership skills . terry should remain as captain as he is a true natural leader ( and I don't particularly like him ) .
As for being our best defender ;D

Ferdinand is having an awesome season as captain for Man Yoo. They don't seem too worried about his leadership skills.

to be honest, fair play to him. We don't know whats happened behind the scenes at training sessions etc, he might of fully deserved it. He has experience and is having a good season so far with Manure.
Maybe Capello is seeing how he leads the team to ease his decision for the World Cup qualifiers?

I am stunned at the support for Ferdinand....short memory for many people....just think the captain of england should be a real ambassador for UK.....Ferdinand history is littered with dodgy stories....Gerrard for me....impeccable professional

More Ferdinand claptrap based on the fact he is a Man Utd player.
He is the best English centre half by far and deserves a game as captain - I just hope he remembers to take Torres out of his pocket before the match.
As for Gerrard - he won't play. He is too knackered through chasing Scholes's shadow on Sunday.

Pugsley....nowt to do with man u....Ferdinand is a decent defender...not the best by far..england captain should be ultimate professional to set an example....Ferdinand hardly qualifies on that score.....cant see Gerrard missing a drugs test because he was shopping or taking part in roasting videos....but I bet it doesnt bother you

jesus some people would slag sir stan off if he rose from his grave and pulled on a man utd ffs!!!!! It wasnt so long ago that terry was banned from playing for england due to beating someone nearly to death i believe, how the tosser got in the squad in the first place amazes me, let alone near the damn armband. As for gerrard, he was my 1st choice for cpt when mclaren took over but he hardly stepped up to the plate when he had his chances before did he. say what you like about ferdinand, yeah he missed a drug test (not failed as some people still say) but apart from that hes a fairly model pro by todays standards, (i did say fairly)

Gerrard - 64 England caps and I am struggling to name 5 good games he has had for England. One that sticks out is against the mighty Andorra.
Ferdinand has performed consistently well for England especially at major tournaments where Gerrard in particular has been abysmal, along with other so called greats such as Lampard.
Where was Gerrard on Sunday? Chasing Paul Scholes and Anderson.

Rio is having a great season, against Liverpool he was amazing.
Terry & Lampard - Arrogant to**ers
Gerrard just isn't good enough, he hardly did a captains role against Man U did her?
