Call me old fashioned if you like but i can't help thinking that a standing ovation for someone who has been caught drink driving is slightly inappropriate. ??? Is it really something we should be giving the thumbs up to???? ok showing support is one thing , but standing ovation!!!!!!!
he's likely to get a magnum of champagne and a holiday for 2 if he actually kills someone.
Norwich boss Glenn Roeder has praised the fans' reaction to Matty Pattison on Saturday against Colchester. Just six days earlier the midfielder was arrested for drink-driving at the club's Colney training ground. "It was wrong what happened, but you don't write someone off because they made a mistake," Roeder told BBC Radio Norfolk. "Our fans were terrific to give him a standing ovation and he was pretty emotional at the end."
He added: "The boys have rallied round him this week as well as the staff. It was a difficult day for him to come out and play after what's happened this week." Roeder was delighted by the standing ovation Pattison received from Canary fans after his second-half withdrawal. "I think they're coming from the same way of thinking as I am," he added. "It just makes me realise yet again what a brilliant crowd we've got." As well as the fans' ovation, Pattison was patted on the back by each of his team-mates, and the manager, when he was substituted after an hour of the 5-1 win at Carrow Road.

If Roeder wants to hear a real reception, why doesn't he sign Joey Barton? ???

Who cares? Ok so he fucked up. So have a lot of people on here in some way or another. Maybe they should have just hung him on the half way line before kickoff.

stafford-stokie the point is that the players who didn't commit a crime, didn't get a standing ovation........what does that say?????????
i am merely questioning the sanity of a society that seems content with the idea that if you do something wrong and apoligise for it, you are somehow a better person than someone who doesn't do something wrong in the first place!!!!!!

There is no doubt that drink drive is wrong and I am in no way defending him for that. Perhaps most were standing and clapping because he played well. I would also suspect that a lot just stood up because others did and had no idea what he had done. I just think that some people go over the top when saying how players (and Hippo's) should be punished sometimes.

I would sack anybody done for drink driving. It is so dangerous and many people could be killed. It's not clever it's wrong.
A standing ovation is stupid, as mentioned, what about the players who had not got into any bother ?
You see the story in the papers far too often that the person driving was only driving because of this or that and they hadn't been done before. Not caught before more like.
Think of the families of the people who have been killed by a drunk driver, they have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives.
