Ryan's Rewarded Posted on: Tue 25 Mar 2008 Ryan Shawcross will make his debut for England's Under 21s this evening, stokecityfc.com can exclusively reveal.
The 20-year old protege was last week selected in Stuart Pearce's squad for the second time, following his initial call up against the Republic of Ireland in February.
Unfortunately, he wasn't involved in the squad for that game, however he will tonight be handed a start against Poland at Wolverhampton Wanderers Molineux.
Article continues Advertisement Speaking to the official website he couldn't hide his delight at the news, saying: "It's a great honour for me and it will really be something special when kick off comes.
"I was involved against Ireland last month but I didn't play, obviously I was disappointed but Stuart Pearce told me to keep going and I would get my chance.
"He has been true to his word and it looks like I will be starting tonight. I'm very excited about it and I will be going out to do my absolute best."

Ironic that the FA can suspend him for two Stoke City matches, but he can play for an England team midway through it.

Shows how far we have come as a club as well.
A couple of years ago, who would've thought we would be top of the championship with an england under 21 international

Dave- didn't they change the rules a few years ago? I think they had an internal agreement that if a player was suspended for club they couldn't play for country.
I have a feeling that it was Gerrard who changed the rules?!!

Well done Ryan! Do us proud! Who was the last Stoke player to play for the U-21's? Henry played for the U-20's so he doesn't count.

Great news - good luck Ryan.
I think team will be;
Hart
Gardner Onouha (C) Shawcross Mattock
Johnson Leadbitter Cattermole O'Hara
Campbell Derbyshire
Not a bad side if its the one picked. Be nice if Ryan scores.

According to the story on the Official site. Good luck Ryan! Good luck indeed, shame that all Midlands Today could report on was the WBA player who's had to withdraw. Not even a mention? Yet more "balanced" reporting from the BBC....not
